Those who think this is a ridiculous and un-Apple idea and those who like the idea.
This is something I can't comprehend - how can this not be useful?! It liberates you from checking your phone constantly.

The counter argument is that it is a minimal amount of effort to turn your screen on and check that you received a notification. A secondary counter argument is that you can also hear your notification arrive. This is something I can't comprehend - how can this not be useful?! But the thing is, with your S7 you have the option to turn it off (Settings -> Display -> LED indicator), whereas the iPhone doesn't have this feature at at all.I don't want to sound like a fanboy. I mean what is an "apple- like idea" anyway. I used to be in the camp that wanted a notification light. But I have it on my s7 and have started to find it annoying. I don't miss it a bit on my 7 plus. I loved it on my crackberry.
I am not against making it an option. But the thing is, with your S7 you have the option to turn it off (Settings -> Display -> LED indicator), whereas the iPhone doesn't have this feature at at all.
Now? I just consistently check my phone when I want.
your 100% right i use my phone for business and i would never buy a phone that doesn't have it. i can't tell you how much money the led notifier has made in the past. i have gotten so many compliments from my clients who say something like. i went you because you are fastest to answer any and all my questions. and i attribute that directly to the fact i have that led notifier. You ever start running your own business, this will change quick. You make your clients wait, they go elsewhere.
To everyone that says they do NOT want a notification light: why would a OFF option for you not be good enough to allow the rest of us to have it that do desire such feature ?
It's not like Apple's gonna implement what we want, even if you show your utmost desire. To everyone that says they do NOT want a notification light: why would a OFF option for you not be good enough to allow the rest of us to have it that do desire such feature ?

They think it's useless for them so they didn't bother at all.
I had this before on my Blackberry but haven't been useful since even if I look at it, I would still end up unlocking my phone to check other stuffs so I think it's useless for me (not mentioning the .5% battery consumption).
Also, iOS10 has raise to wake feature so I think LED notification is not gonna happen anymore

There is a rumor out there that the next iPhone (2017) will have OLED screens.IMO, it never was going to happen. Since Apple has made the iPhone for 10 years without adding Mr Blinky, it's never going to happen.
Just a random, general thought I had. One thing I miss from my BlackBerry days (and currently a widely used android feature) is notification lights, letting you know you have a text/missed call/whatever without needing to even touch your phone. Maybe a group of 3 small lights, each a different/customizable color. One for missed calls, one for new texts, and a third that could be customized to whatever you want it to convey (i.e. new Facebook friend request, tweet notification from someone you follow, new email, etc.) You could get so much info just by looking at your phone this way.
I think Apple could elegantly incorporate a notification light(s) into the iPhone. Perhaps on the back to the right of the camera cluster, or on the front to the right of the speaker/camera cluster, or maybe both. What do you guys think?

If you understand that an OLED screen has the ability to light specific individual pixels rather than the entire screen, then the possibility of a notification indicator occuring might be something to consider.
It may even be a killer feature combination with Raise to Wake.
This is not an uncommon topic here.
I warn you that this thread will explode. There are two camps on MacRumors. Those who think this is a ridiculous and un-Apple idea and those who like the idea.
I'm in the second camp, but I've had my say on this more than once in the two or three other threads about it.
