I had a 256gb iPhone 7 and it was definitely one of the better devices I owned. I eventually gave it to my 15yo son last year as his first phone, and it was really a great first device for him.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 are technically outdated. They are so old that they are of no use, and repairing them will make no sense due to compatibility issues.
Well I've been very happily using my 8+ since January 2019 and I had the battery changed in an Apple Store only last month. Am hoping to keep using it for at least another 2 years. Later models just offer no compelling reason to upgrade before I need to.

iPhone 7 Plus is one of my favorite iPhones ever. The first great camera, the matte black finish, solid state home button, was super fast and felt fast for a long time. The other favorite is iPhone 5S. Probably my favorite honestly.

I hated that entire family/form-factor, the 6-8. The only redeeming thing was that the 6S had 3D Touch. Ugly hardware design after ugly hardware design for years, until the X got things right again. The X and XS were my favorite iPhones of all time, still to-date.
Agree. Loved how slim and elegant those phones were.... ahead of their day with the introduction of Face ID and the notch surpassing Touch ID. I did have a fond liking for Touch ID though. But things move on.

I’m still amazed how fast my iPhone 8 Plus 256 boots up, it’s faster than all my phones since then.

I picked up the iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black from the refurbished store a few years ago to my collection. It was brilliant to look at even in 2025.

I used my 7+ until the first of this year, had to give it up due to some apps requiring a later iOS than was available for the 7+. It was a darn good phone, bought it the year it released, and still had %90 battery life. Hated giving it up, but I did get my money's worth out of it. The 15+ has some nice features and advantages and it is not AI capable (which is why I bought it). I am concerned about the path the iOS updates continue to take and I just cannot justify updating past 17, only to end up with a phone that pisses me off everyday. Next year, I very likely will go to the OnePlus 14 when it is released.

its a funny world where a piece of electronic made 8 years ago considered obsolete. My tv is from 12 years ago and working just fine so is my ps3 which was released 16 years ago.

I know Apple wouldn't support it but maybe it would be nice to let people side load OS on it or something. Between iphone7 and 8, they sold total 150 million devices. 150 million devices in garbage burial. What a joke. Not so eco friendly.

iphone se 3 is like modern iphone 7 . Little bit outdated but if you used 7 until this year, se 3 will last you like until 2028

I would have disagreed if the 8 got iOS 18 ( which is possible and maybe iOS 19 as well ) but not only did it not get it but A10 iPads getting iPadOS 17 and 18 for 7th Gen iPad has made the 8 even far more useless in terms of app support and security since devices stuck on OS’s 15 and 16 will get a security update released at the same time now.

The 7’s usefulness in its day of age is just another iPhone 6 situation where the 5s and 6 didn’t get iOS 13 but the 7 could easily have gotten iOS 18

Also the iPhone X counts here too especially compared to the XR

I truly miss my 6S+, my first iPhone after the 3GS.
Using mine as my daily driver. Still have my standard 6s but the 6s+ is easier on the eyes and better for typing. Last one with the headphone jack!

I guess my needs have slightly changed over the past 10 years. I'm not ready to give up the home button and I have a 7+ and 8+ available for when the software/hardware demands require it.

I have built up a collection with my old iDevices. So wasteful to throw them away when they are functional for other uses.

Not true. The Original SE was the last iPhone to be released with a Headphone Jack ( also the last iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to release with 16GB of Storage).

The 6S is so good. It’s mostly better than the 7 in terms of OS Support, the 7th gen iPod Touch ( which it itself has even worse software support than the 6th gen version), Mini 4, Air 2 ( in ways because the Air 2 is older, A8X is equal in multi core to the A9 but A9 has DDR4 RAM and its storage speed and technology (NVM-e) is much better than eMMC.

Yes, I was referring to the last of this body type (4.7/5.5 screen size) since this thread is talking about the 7 and 8. The SE 1st gen is somewhat limited by its smaller screen and app compatibility with the smaller screen.
