Basically, there is nothing wrong with these images. They are extremely sharp and they look extremely saturated and detail-preserving. But this is simply what we might get used to nowadays in comparison of what photos looked like since 100 years.

The only thing standing in the way is personal preference. I myself find them hideous.

I'll take my NEX-5T over this. Is is not that much larger than a iPhone 7S.

Yeah its a prime example of a multi-use device

Sure, Phil. I bet you take it with you every time you go shark jumping. Maybe you also consider racing a street car at an Indy race, I don't know. The iP7+camera looks great, but, there are still planned events where I def would want something more dynamic than a 2x lens with fake bokeh wth me.

These photos, as well as some photos in the keynote, are 16:9 ratio. iPhone's stock app has never allowed shooting pics in widescreen aspect ratio. I've read many iPhone 7 reviews and have yet to see anyone mention this. Is this a new mode? Or just cropped from a 3:2 or 4:3 ratio? Some apps such as Camera+ have allowed 16:9 shooting, but I doubt a 3rd party app is being used for these Apple sponsored demos. Any ideas?

If your that bothered why not just buy a decent camera instaed of carrying around a big heavy iPhone 7 Plus.

"Pictures over saturated"? I'll just shoot RAW and adjust them myself. If they are oversaturated it's simply the jpeg processing. I'd rather have full control over my images, editing them takes seconds and you get the results you're happy with.

How does the phones' camera perform in low light environment?
I do not understand you can value these pictures. Any camera or smartphone is capable of shooting these quality photos.

Edit: just saw the link: decent but not wow. Also, they didn't include any point of reference.

I love the "for the money" line as though paying $1,000 (assuming you get the 256 GB, which, if you are getting it for the camera like I am will be needed) for an iPhone "Camera" is cheap.

Im not a photographer.

Those pics don't impress me. It doesn't look better than what you could take with an older iPhone.

water resistance, zoom, etc is more palatable.

What i really would like to know is how much the dual camera was involved in these pictures... If i understand correctly, the dual cam is only used in zooming 2x or more, or in the new 'portrait' mode that is not available yet...

How much do these pictures represent the picture quality of the iPhone 7 single camera? Are they similar? Or does the dual cam actually improve the overal quality of the pictures taken?
Very good point. Apple wants to have more sales of iPhone 7 plus wherein lies the greater profit margin and therefore it is marketing it over the less expensive iPhone 7

I can't be bothered carrying this around everywhere though, my phone on the other hand

True. But Phil doesn't seem to be talking about spontaneous events in which the best camera is the one you have -- which is usually your phone. The pictures here reflect a planned trip. In that, case, at least, me, I'm taking the best camera I have and the best lenses, or if weight is an issue, the best zoom, I have. What bugs me about all of these pictures is that depth of field is infinite -- not a good thing here. Also, I'm disappointed that when the iP7+ s/w is updated with the computer generated bokeh, it will only work with people, not animals or objects.

It's still not clear to me if the 7 Plus gives improved quality over the 7 when using 1x (28mm lens) because of the dual-lens setup. Anyone?

I'm not an expert but I don't think so. I think they would have said that if that was the case...

Nice! yeah we have NEXs at the office. They durable also, we have 2 in the field in West Africa - never given us a problem (including a 3N) and we get great shots back from them. I always find all these "this smartphone camera is better over this smartphone camera" threads silly. It is like having a discussion on what is the best crayon to draw with... in the end, it is just crayons.

I saw review on cnet, when they compared 6s Plus with 7 Plus and I'm disappointed with the results. Especially in low-light. I didn't see any improvement in iP7Plus and I decided not to buy.
This I don't understand, why high end mobile has low end camera.
