Just happened to me.
Just happened while I was surfing the web. Tried resetting network settings, airplane mode, removing the SIM and putting it back in, restarting phone and nothing.
Can't get near a Apple Store until next Wednesday as I'm away on holidays... f*kn annoying. It'll show service then when I try to access data it'll drop out.
Anyone got any other fixes? I just updated to 10.0.2 this morning - to me it feels it was this update that killed it. Had it once on 10.0.1 and then used airplane mode and it fixed itself...
I'm sure this could easily be fixed with a software update. I'm picking up my 7 plus today, hope I don't have the same issue.
Oh, I'm at target right now, coincidence. My phone won't get back on network. I have to use target wifi. Heading over to Verizon to see what they say. If they can't help, going back to Att.
Spoke too soon I'm having the issue even with Volte disabled
This has been an issue since day one

I've only noticed it while traveling in a car. I've wondered if it has to do with the handoff from one cell tower to another.
There's basically nothing that can be done at the store, Genius Bar or Verizon tech support ... I know we're all hoping for some sort of "do this and your phone will be better" fix, but save yourself the time. Nobody can vix it byt Verizon.
The only thing you SHOULD do is call Verizon tech support and report the issue and reference the support ticket 102095-091716, to add yourself to the issue.
Here's what we know right now:
* The exact issue is your phone will drop off LTE and bounce between 1x/3G. You probably won't go back to LTE without going to Airplane Mode and back. If you're using VoLTE, your call will drop as well.
* SIM swaps and device swaps don't do anything
* 10.0.2 (new general release) and 10.1 beta 1 do not fix the issue
* Verizon has a ticket number that you can reference ticket 102095-091716 - call 611 and add yourself
* Turning off VoLTE (Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > Data Only) helps control dropped calls, but not data dropping to 1x/3G
* The problem is worse when you're moving between towers (esp. in a car), but can happen staying in one place
* The most current carrier version is Verizon 25.1
* The most current PRL is 15480
Others, please feel free to add to this.

at&t phones are plagued with this too I think. any carrier using VoLTE.

I've noticed it while stationary at work. but that could be explained by the phone bouncing back and forth between two weak towers far from where I am.

are you sure that this issue is not specific to Verizon?
I have AT&T plus and do not have this issue.
I don't get how they seem to not be aware of it
other carriers have reported the issue. t-mobile had it and some people on here with EE in England had issues dropping their femtocell. people say sprint may be the only carrier not experiencing it because they don't have VoLTE.

there are 6 AT&T users in your link who reported this issue. it is hardly a "plagued" issue.
perhaps you can show me where I stated it was wide spread?
I edited and corrected my post before this response from you.
I admitted that I misread your comment. no offense.it has nothing to do with "wide spread"
verb: plague; 3rd person present: plagues; past tense: plagued; past participle: plagued; gerund or present participle: plaguing
- 1.
cause continual trouble or distress to.

no problem.
but like I said, it appears all carriers have noted the issue with the exception of Sprint. T-Mobile found the issue right away and was able to rectify it within the first two days with a carrier update. it appears to be experienced by Verizon customers more than anyone else though.
my guess is Verzion radio logic to switch between CDMA, LTE, 3G is more complicated than AT&T and Tmobile since CDMA does not support voice and data simultaneously.
