easy to get an an apple store. watch istocknow for 2 days and you can get one, i've already managed to help more than 3 friends get various colors including jet. we've had them since the 3rd week

This is exactly what I did and got a black 128.

You do realize most of these suppliers are very replaceable, right? And the replaceable ones know that. They'll bend over for Apple every time.
I'm not so sure the suppliers are so replaceable. I mean how many suppliers can mass produce products in the large quantities Apple needs and ensure the quality as well. Worldwide very few can meet the quantity and quality and still remain at the price point Apple dictates. Then there is workforce issues as well.

For AT&T customers, Bestbuy.com has JB and Silver in 128. I was able to order a Black 256 at an AT&T store last weekend. That version was currently shipping 1-3 business days.

What makes it so good, spec wise there are dozens of cheaper and better phones
LOL, the competition hasn't even caught up to the performance of the iPhone 6s, much less the iPhone 7. And even those phones were exploding all over the place! Try again.

Wow, over 2 months since launch and the Plus model still shows 3-4 weeks.

Either there is some crazy demand, or maybe they are still supply constrained with some part that is specific to the Plus.

I have yet to spot a single 7Plus black or jet black user out and about in London so not sure how popular they are. I did see 2 black ones for sale in a 2nd hand store though already! Still waiting for my delivery from UK''s o2 network... not excited about this phone anymore.

I remember an article here saying Apple was boosting 7+ production about a week prior to release. Guessing they were getting wind that so many more people would want that double camera (Photos are a big driver for many family buyers).

Demand for the 7+ must really be high (Samsung is probably a small piece of that) - probably alot of regular 6 and 6s users going to the big screen for that camera. JMHO....

It'll be interesting to see sales numbers for the 7 over the next year. The 7 is arguably the worst, most controversial iPhone upgrade ever, and at a time when the competition is high, older iPhone models are increasing in longevity, and while the subsidized pricing structure is going away.

I for one am still rocking my 6+. I'm not a hater. The 7 is a great phone, but I no longer feel required to purchase every other year...

Why? How did you arrive to this conclusion or is this based strictly off your preference?

The iPhone 7 isn't groundbreaking, but it's an incremental upgrade in every way over the 6S. Apple is defintely pushing the customer to the Plus variant. If one can accept its size, it has more To offer for obvious reasons. The iPhone 7 did have some constrain issues and some hardware/software concerns, but your post baffles me.

To label the iPhone 7 as the worst, most
Controversial iPhone ever is anecdotal and unsupported. Again, my question would be to You, how do you know this?

TBH, the camera was the main reason I went with the 7+ over the 7; the extra screen space just happens to be a secondary benefit for me, having previously being content with the 4.7" iPhone 6.

That's what I did, minus the istocknow part. I gave in and ordered a Matte Black online, sure as fate, 3 days later my nearest Apple Store had god knows how many Jet Black. The place was mobbed and everyone who wanted a JB Plus was getting one.

I'm inclined to agree that my impulse to upgrade every year is waning a little. But I think to call the 7 the worst update ever is a bit of a stretch.

If they'd changed the design significantly everyone would be proclaiming it to be the best iPhone ever. But they didn't, they refined the form factor and changed pretty much everything else.

I'm loving my 7 Plus, it's ridiculously powerful, got good cameras, better sound (for when I'm cooking and my speaker battery is flat,) I actually like the new home button, all around it's a solid update. It's by no means an essential purchase if you have a 6s, but older than that and I think you'll notice the difference, I certainly am.

Oh, and the Jet Black is probably the best thing they've done ever since they started using that stupid slidey brushed metal finish. Finally, an iPhone I can comfortably hold again without worrying about it jumping from my hand like a buttered up trout :D

Apple is in a standoff with some of their big suppliers. They keep asking for more discounts, yet Apple keeps all the additional profit.

The suppliers are fed up - we'll give you the parts at the price and volume we quoted you. No more feebies/extra volume.

The IPhone 7/7+ release may be the one that's the most plagued with varied QC issues (if forum discussion is anything to go by) but if you get one in good working order, it's a really excellent iPhone and that display is sweet. I think the dual camera on the Plus and the increased low light performance for both models has been a strong draw for iPhone users who value having the best available camera for their phone. I opted to go for an HTC 10 this time around, but I think iPhone 7 turned out a lot nicer than I was expecting.

People just struggle to understand how supply chain works.

You can't inflate or deflate production at will like a balloon: there is an amount of tooling based on sales projections, and if you overstimate demand you'll end up in trouble, so you can't tool up for 120M if you realistically expect 80M.

It's very clear at this point that there is pent-up demand for the iPhone 7, due to the strength of the product itself and the unexpected Samsung self-annihilation (yes, Samsung completely nuked itself if it's not clear enough).

As a consequence, Apple increased orders, suppliers slowly increased the output and, as reported during the earnings Q&A, at some point in 2017 there will finally be balance.

Hardly. The Note 7 (or any Samsung phone) isn't the only alternative by any means. I've got an HTC 10, which is a beautiful very underrated device. Despite not having a rating for water resistance, I am covered free for one year against water damage and screen breakage. I am extremely picky about cell phone cameras and the HTC 10 camera has surprised me with its excellent quality under difficult lighting. Even the "selfie" camera has OIS.

In my opinion, the killer feature is its incredible sound quality via wired headphones, but it's also no slouch in delivering excellent audio over Bluetooth. It is excellent as a phone, too, lol. And it cost me only $550. It can be had now through discounts at $500. The value for the money is incredible.

Speed and performance depend on the app. I do think I give up overall speed and performance in going with an Android phone, or at least this particular one, but I'm recompensed in features, camera quality, audio quality, and the ability to customize the phone to my tastes or whims. If I want to goof off and turn it into a Windows Phone simulation, there's an app for that. It's a lot of fun.

There have been no reports of exploding HTC 10's that I am aware of. The chassis is extremely sturdy and many owners report their phones holding up well against drops without a case. Again, there is free first year coverage for one incident of screen damage.

I'm not trying to turn into a commercial for HTC, but I am trying to make people aware that Samsung and its troubles are not the only alternative out there. I also think we do a disservice to the quality and excellence of the iPhones when we carelessly and inaccurately disparage the competition.

Well, it's not as though the iPhone has a lot of competition this year.

The iPhone may not have a lot of competition per se in this years market. However, tell me a time when the iPhone wasn't constrained during the holidays, let alone other Apple products. This article really is only stating the obvious to the reader.

Even if The Note 7 was still on the market, The iPhone 7/7Plus would still be selling strong, being Apple has such a dominant following. It really is a two sided fence with preferences with who the customer wants to side with.

It just feels especially bad this year. I know when I got my 6S+ in September last year, there was ready stock of all colours of the plus model available. Now, stock of the 7plus model is still pretty much unavailable everywhere around me. Quite a number of my friends have had to make do with the normal iPhone 7 model because their contracts were up and they didn't want to wait any more.

Well the iPhone 6s and Plus were in good shape without supply issues by the end of October last year (that's when I got mine, but it mentions this in the article). By the holidays there were no issues, at least here in the U.S..

Considering the controversy and lack of a new design it is unexpected for supply to be here at this point. The article mentions that even the regular 7 is hard to get in China still. Sales figures for this quarter will tell the tale.

If they'd changed the design significantly everyone would be proclaiming it to be the best iPhone ever. But they didn't, they refined the form factor and changed pretty much everything else.

Firstly, I'd be curious to hear which iPhone you would think is the "worst upgrade ever"? I know that sounds a little hyperbolic, but when you evaluate against every previous iPhone it's difficult to determine a stinker.

As for why I think it's the worst, most controversial...

First starting with the controversial aspects
-Same form factor for 3rd straight year
-Removal of a part that vast majority of users use on a regular basis
-Redesigned home button. Some like it, some don't.

Now none of those aspects really matter to me personally, but they are certainly negatives for some aspects and people.

And the big upgrades...
Faster processor: Yeah it's faster, but the 6s is already stinking fast
Better camera: Yeah it's better, but the 6s is already pretty good
Better screen: In the store I forgot to intentionally notice the better screen, but I think the fact that I didn't notice a difference says something
Waterproof: Definitely nice to have, but not groundbreaking and I've been fine without

I think it honestly is less about the 7 and more about the fact that the iPhone has already become so good that marginal differences are inconsequential. Then throw in the "controversial" aspects and it makes it a harder upgrade. I still think it's a good phone. And even a good upgrade. But I say again, which upgrade would you say is worse?

I've heard many people consider the iPhone 3G the least upgrade in the past. I believe it didn't change the processor or the camera. But the switch from edge to 3g plus the addition of GPS I think creates monumental changes to user experience.

33 days and counting for me. Unfortunately I had to order through my carrier, which was paricularly frustrating when I saw one the same as my order in stock at a different retailer.

You make some great points. Is the iPhone 7/7 Plus monumental upgrade over the 6s? No. But, as I stated previously, the iPhone 7 is incremental. Some have said the iPhone has piqued and further innovation is dead. I disagree with that. I think Apple has more
In the pipeline. I believe the iPhone 8 will allegedly change the iPhone, at least in terms
Of from being stagnant. A Feature that will be a game changer in the future will be long range wireless charging for example.

I also think the iPhone 7 received negativity,
Not because it's a poor upgrade, but because
Of the removal of the 3.5 Jack, which clouds the emphasis of the iPhone and its newer features.

Overall, I own the 7 Plus. I have been happy with it. But I will say I am ready for an upgrade and overhaul. I think Apple needs To stay focused to offer features other manufacturers won't push the boundaries to implement.

It's the worst upgrade ever because they made the phone useless by removing the headphone jack and DAC.

I can't believe anybody is buying a phone that has no standard audio output.

I don't even skip years. I've had every iPhone since the 3G. But the 7 is just not an option.
