I would consider this for the camera(s). I do happen to be a photographer. However, bokeh is not my thing, no offense to anyone but I think its a stupid marketing gimmick. I want the opposite. I want them to use the two cameras to get full depth of field across the entire image (like I can with my view camera), not "lack of depth of field". How do I get them to do this?

Me. And it's my first one. A bit nervous about the size, but I'm pulling the trigger anyway. I was hoping for a more visual change to this set of iPhones and since we didn't get that I figure I'll spend a year with the Plus to fill that hole. On top of the kickass camera(s), I'm into the additional battery life and I'm not mad about the extra real estate for the keyboard. Will snag a 128GB matte black 7 Plus.

I've never really been that much into photography, and even though I travel a lot I've never felt the urge to purchase a high-end DSLR to capture those great travel moments. However, I do like chronicling and capturing the moments and the iPhone camera does that in spades for me and hopefully in an even better way with the higher pixel camera, f/1.8 aperture, and OIS on the iPhone 7.

PLUS: who needs to mail postcards anymore when you can send an immediate picture from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world JUST . LIKE . THAT.

Isn't the iPhone 7 camera the exact camera as one of the iPhone 7 plus' cameras? If so the only benefit that I see in going with the plus is the zoom and bokeh. What am I missing here? I'm assuming the 7 has OIS for video and photos. I was all set to go 7+ but if that's the only benefit in the camera I'll go with the smaller form factor and cheaper price.

Definitely getting the phone for the camera, I mean I was getting it anyway, but the camera is a plus

The 7 plus has a 1080p (full HD) true tone display. The 7 has a 720p display. In previous generations the plus has better battery life.

Here are the camera differences

7+ = All-new 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras; Wide-angle: ƒ/1.8 aperture; telephoto: ƒ/2.8 aperture; Optical zoom at 2x; digital zoom up to 10x

7 = All-new 12MP camera; ƒ/1.8 aperture; digital zoom up to 5x

The are two separate cameras on the 7+ with the addition of the "telephoto" camera. It is actually only a bit longer than a "Normal" lens at around 58mm equivalent and is a F2.8 lens vs the regular 4.7" iPhone 7's wide angle of 29mm at F1.8. To put this in perspective, the camera on the 6 and 6S is a 29mm lens that is at F2.2.

So the new wide angle camera will let in a bit more light and have slightly shallower optical depth of field while the new telephoto on the 7+ only will let in slightly less light but have roughly the same depth of field as the faster wide angle lens due to it being a longer lens.

I think the new 1.8 lens on the wide angle with the OIS, better image processing with the new sensor will be great. I suspect the telephoto would be handy, but I doubt it will make the solo camera on the regular 7 seem that much inferior.

What could end up turning this around might be apps we have not thought of yet that use innovative ways to employ the use of both cameras on the 7+.

So the 7 doesn't have a wide angle lens. I appreciate you typing that out. The 7 must not have the same lens as the 12mp in the 7+then. Where did you the specs? Apple website?

On the Apple website - remember the 7+ has 2 cameras, the 7 has 1.

It's just not enough for me to choose to update. In Canada I'm looking at C$1400 for a 7+ with AC and unlocked. Can't justify it for any of the added "features". End of the day it's a phone that does some other stuff but none of it is so good it's worth as much as an IPP 13".

Not quite right.

Both the 7 and 7+ have the 29mm F1.8 lens with OIS, new sensor, etc.

Only the 7+ has the *addition* of the 58mm F2.8 lens that Apple is calling a "Telephoto" with it's own OIS and sensor, IE two cameras.

More perspective: Although not as much angle of view as the human eye ( peripheral of about 220 degrees ), the magnification or how close something is when placed equally to that of our eyes is about a 50mm lens in regular 35mm based photography, IE a full frame DSLR. So a 58mm lens is only ever so slightly closer to the subject then that....not really telephoto but will appear more so than compared to the backed off view of the normal wide angle iPhone lenses we have grown accustomed to.

The 58mm lens spec is based on the figure that Apple has cited for the "Telephoto" camera being 2x closer than the regular wide angle camera which is a 29mm.

Lol, thanks again. If the 7 is really just "missing" the telephoto lens the upgrade to the plus may not be worth it for me.

I hate that the dual camera isn't available in the 7 non-plus, the plus is not a phone, too dam big!!!!!!

Ugh, I really want that dual cam, (photographer here), I will have to go find an iPhone 6/s Plus and stuff it in my pocket, see if I can deal with it, but, will probably have to do without the dual cam.

So aggravating

This is one where it might be worth it to wait either for someone's hands on preview or take it for a spin and see if it is a big enough difference for you. For what it is worth, I *never* consider digital zoom figures and only consider optical ones as a means of getting maximum image quality.

While I agree that the + sized phones are just too big for a lot of us, me included, I am not feeling the loss of what is a slightly longer than normal lens on a phone. It's likely that they simply can not fit two cameras in the smaller phone, not yet anyway. I think I would rather carry around a high quality accessory lens with the smaller phone than be stuck with a phone that fits in a lot less pockets, but that is just me.

I have an iPhone SE, coming from iPhone 5 which I've had since December 2012. I had to buy a new phone overseas coz my iPhone 5 stopped working. so I couldn't wait for the 7. I'm still considering getting the 7 or 7 plus

Is the camera that much better on the 7/7plus compared to 6s/plus even the SE?

I have the regular 6S, previously owner of the plus model.
I'll probably be waiting for reviews before impulse buying the larger model, but I'm considering going back to the behemoth of a phone just for dual setup.

TLDR: Is anyone else getting the plus model just for the camera?

Edit: Swapped from the plus to the regular because of the size, considering going since my phone is my main camera, unless I actually bring my DSLR.

The camera is really the only reason to get one, assuming you already have a recent iPhone.
