I noticed when I was looking at my phone from the bottom at maybe 70 degrees I was able to notice diagonal lines going at maybe 20 degrees across the whole screen. You notice it most on light colors.

This was a huge problem on all the HTC Ones and something I haven't seen since and I just noticed it last night on my iPhone 7.

As an EXAMPLE, they sorta look like the diagonal lines in this icon, but across the entire screen:

Anyone else?

(Please don't say you don't have it because you haven't noticed. You have to first look very carefully with high screen brightness in a dark environment, something you'd do when watching videos).

Yes, I'm going to hold my phone at silly angles in varying degrees of lighting to look for something I can't see in day to day use.

However, due to an inversion defect in some iPhones, you may see this:

The lines may also seem to appear when you're moving the device around, or moving your head/eyes. However, if you keep your eyes perfectly still and your device perfectly still, you may not see them.

This has been an issue with iPhones ever since the iPhone 3G (back then, the lines were horizontal not vertical). I've been playing the panel lottery ever since then. I had my iPhone 3G exchanged multiple times and I finally got a clear display. I wasn't so lucky with my iPhone 5s though, but my iPhone 6 screen is flawless (like the first image).

I hope this helps some of you out

I had those lines on my 5s and it was noticeable on blues and greens when using the phone normally. But I'm not going to go holding my phone at 70 degree angles in different light to LOOK for abnormalities.

Really? Cause I see them without tilting the device or looking at it abnormally. When you've had retina screens that are crystal clear, the lines become really apparent when you get one that is not clear. It makes it not look retina anymore.

The vertical lines you showed in the images above? I already acknowledged that I had those on my 5s and they were noticeable during normal use.

My 7 is spot on (as was my 6) but I'm not going to start looking for something on this phone that I can't see to help massage the OCD of others.

This place is full of folk LOOKING for issues.

However, just because your device doesn't have this issue, doesn't mean that others do not.

I'm happy for you though. Like I said before though, I don't have to try to see the lines... they either appear in front of my eyes or they don't. My current iPhone 6 doesn't have any lines, but I've had phones with them before and I hate them.

I'm hoping my iPhone 7 Plus is good though.

Not me, I watch videos at night with brightness turned way down. Feels like I burn my eyeballs out in dark room with it too bright.

That explains it, I was wondering what was going on in here. Was gonna go out and buy a huge lighted magnifier and nano second timer to check things out when my iPhone 7 finally arrives.

Maybe I just enjoy the phone instead. I knew getting older and needing reading glasses would pay off somehow.

If you have to try to see it, then it's obviously not an issue, but I've had iPhones in the past where it's very easy to see when using the iPhone at normal distances.

I just got my iPhone 7 Plus yesterday and my screen is completely free of any lines which is nice.

Maybe one with lines is defective. Take to Apple Store and have em check it out.

I see no difference in these pics?

So I'd pretty much given up on trying to photograph what I'm seeing but I just stumbled across an unrelated gif that shows it. Imagine this, across the entire screen. You can't see it if looking directly at the screen with perfect alignment but if the phone is off axis a bit, this is exactly what I was seeing:

Hmmm. Very strange. I have that effect on my iPhone 6 but it was so subtle and only showed up on whites and light grays so it never bothered me.

I would definitely return it if it's that bad though. That's defective.

By the way, the lines I was referring to were vertical not diagonal.
The effect is very subtle and the angle seems to vary by handset. My 6 is less noticeable during normal use and more vertical than the lines on the 7

You do.

Not having it and not seeing it are different. Be happy you don't notice it. :)

Trust me. I am very good at spotting imperfections in screens and my iPhone screens have had lines in the past. My iPhone 6 has diagonal lines on it, but trust me, my iPhone 7 Plus is line-free.

Oh, Plus. Yeah, it's a 7 issue. I haven't seen it on the Plus.

The only defect we share is the horrible top speaker. (Seriously. Cover the bottom speaker and listen to the horror. Lol.)

I'll go check some out at a phone store to be sure, otherwise I'll be returning again I guess :(
I've looked at a lot now, perhaps 12. Some are not as strong as others but it is present on all 7's. I didn't notice it on the Plus.

I first noticed this on the HTC One, it isn't as bad on the 7 as that, but it is frustrating.

It does make me wonder how a manufacturer would allow something like this to happen.

Wow, that's absurd. I'll still take a look to check. Even the phone I have now came out of the box with a wide scratch one the antenna band. I was willing to let that slide providing there wasn't anything else wrong with the phone. I've accepted the hissing in quiet videos and when holding the back close to your ear as normal across all 7's.

I would seriously consider a 7+ just because the screen doesn't have the issue we're currently talking about but I have heard that it has other issues such as the screen creaking/popping that plagued the 6 series. Not to mention they seem to have much worse hissing compared to the standard 7.
Yeah, the electronic whine doesn't bug me as the ONLY way I can hear it is if I'm stressing the processor WHILE holding the back of the phone to my ear, which isn't something I'd ever do.

Even still though, the 3 consistent hardware defects across all 7's (diagonal lines, crappy top speaker and electronic whine) really surprise me. You'd think the 3rd iteration of a design would have these issues worked out.
