While most people will want the 8, many will have the settle for the 7S or 7S+.

They will be great iPhones. I still love my 7+ and will be interested in the 7S+.
Agree with you on the most part but being myself iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus owner i will be more interested in all new redesigned iPhone 8 with OLED display :)

Tell Apple how ridiculous it is for initiating yet another repair program

https://www.apple.com/support/iphone6plus-multitouch/

And while you're at it, pay a visit to the relevant threads in this forum where you can berate those who have these clunkers for their ridiculousness. You can also tell them it is because they dropped and smashed their phones several times and not because Apple decided in its wisdom to remove a strengthening shim present in the 5S and hurriedly added back to the 6S+.

Do that, will you? Thanks.
I'm not berating anyone. To imply that consumers should avoid the redesign iPhone's entirely is ridiculous. I guess the countless millions who will buy the iPhone X are all idiots in your eyes. Peace.

Any electronic device or phone can experience issues. It happens. But known fact: Apple's devices last way beyond there life expectancy. But given Apple's track record, most companies won't go to the lengths Apple's customer service will to make the situation whole.

I am not singling out Apple in this as this seems to be true of pretty much any electronic manufacturer - the price you pay for being at the bleeding edge, I suppose. However, anyone who has been on Macrumors for any length of time should know that it is a truism that if you want as hassle-free an experience as possible that you don't rush into the major upgrades of devices or hardware and wait before installing x.0 upgrades of macOS. Better still, wait until x.2. I am far from the only person who has posted that.

I highly doubt the top tier 64 GB iPhone will cost $869. I highly doubt it would be less than $949-999. It could even go up to $1099. However, the most probable guess is $999.

I think there will be a 7S/7S Plus this year, in addition to whatever the new one will be called. Apple will do this in order to be able to sell the new one at a higher price, while still giving consumers a "new" iPhone at a traditional price too, as well as to be able to artificially limit demand for the new one (by pricing it high) because otherwise they will simply not be able to make enough of them due to OLED panel supply constraints. Next year we'll go back to regular programming, possibly make much fanfare about "price reduction" too.

I don’t think they’ll reduce the pricing much if the phone sells at a higher price. If they’re able to sell well at $999, even more sales won’t bring the price below $849-899+ in 2018. Even if that happens. Which is doubtful.

I mean for 2018’s 5.8” model.

Possible as the existing 7 has already been selling at around that price (based on current exchange) in the UK.

In the UK I doubt you’ll find the OLED iPhone 2017 for less than £949. It may even be £969-999.

Just, here's the iPhone 8 - go buy it.
They stopped that a long time ago.

Now they split everything in "Pro", "Premium" end "Cheap remodelled hardware"

I still think the iPhone 8 will be "premium" in price and material, but not in features.
The 7S will be the "augmented reality, 3D camera, nerd phone"

My prediction: The iPhone 8 will start at Euro 1200 and up from there as high as you are willing to pay for each single flash chip ;)

... but ... I will buy it. It's like the space black apple watch.

Can't say until we've actually got more than rumours, but so far the 8/edition doesn't appeal to me in particular. I much prefer to be at the comfier trailing end of technology than have the latest and greatest and all the teething problems that could come with it. But that's just my personal preference. All in all I'd rather get a higher storage tier 7s+ than the equivalent priced 8, and jump across to the new form factor once the new design/ features have bedded in in a year or two.
