Apple today stopped selling the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus after announcing the second-generation iPhone SE.

The second-generation iPhone SE is essentially an upgraded iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID home button, but with a faster A13 Bionic chip. As of now, there is no Plus-sized version of the new iPhone SE, so there is no direct replacement for the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus, although rumors suggest that an iPhone SE Plus is under development.

Apple introduced the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus alongside the iPhone X in September 2017. Key features included a glass-backed design with wireless charging, improved water resistance, and upgraded cameras.

The new iPhone SE starts at $399 in the United States. For more details, read our announcement post.

Update: While no longer sold by Apple, Rene Ritchie notes that the iPhone 8 Plus will remain available through select retailers for the time being.

SE is $50 cheaper than iPhone 8, it didn't make sense to continue selling it. I wonder if they'll release an SE Plus for people who like the 5.5" display eventually or the Plus size is gone forever.
This time around, I doubt it.

I think Apple wants to avoid flooding their iPhone lineup as much as possible, so there will be no SE Plus, just the SE to keep it simple.

Looking forward to some sales on stock of iphone 8 for sure.. will pick some up for friends who don't need the latest and greatest.

Shocked to see the 8 Plus discontinued without a successor in place, even though we know it is coming.

I guess we will see it at WWDC or the September keynote.

Hoping iPhone 8 cases fit iPhone SE!
Using Apple's compare function for iPhones, the two are exactly the same size. This suggests they're using all the same tooling (which would be a huge savings for them). And the camera has all the same specs (it supports some new modes, but those are software driven by the faster CPU/GPU). That, in turn, suggests the camera placement/size is likely exactly the same. Unless they arbitrarily decided to move the various buttons (to no benefit and at great expense), iPhone 8 cases should fit exactly the same.

There is a rumour of a plus next year from Kuo, but he leaves it open on whether its going to be another 5.5" like the 8 plus, or a 6.1" which would basically be an 11s.

I agree it's odd they scrapped the 8 Plus without an SE Plus, especially when we've seen a lot of rumors indicating an SE Plus was perhaps forthcoming. Personally, I don't understand the obsession with the 6 through 8 chassis, compared to the X to 11 chassis, but there are many folks that I know prefer the former form factor and TouchID. Seems unfortunate that there is no longer a Plus variant of the older chassis for those customers.

It seems like the days of a simple product line for Apple are long gone. Especially when you factor in reseller stock, some folks are still selling the 6S through the 11 Pro, which is many SKU's of iPhone.
