Gruber does say the 8 is less slippery than the 7.I know this is crazy, but the reason for upgrading from 7 to 8 seems to be able to use it without a case finally. It will not slip out of your hand all the time like lighter, aluminium backed iP7 does. For me, thats an upgrade over the 7. But only if I can sell my iP7 for a good price of course.
The iPhone 8 got an entirely new design, because I do not need a case anymore.
without even reading the review, that was my reasoning. Its a very minor update to the 7. I'm not knocking the 8, just pointing out though apple really didn't add anything compelling to the 8 (other then wireless charging).
Ok but people need to stop with the “this isn’t a compelling upgrade from the 7”. I doubt Apple is expecting most 7 users to upgrade to the 8.
I think part of the problem here is that going from a 6 to a 7 was actually a step of two generations, two years. There was a 6S in between. So many people probably did see the 6 to 7 as a default upgrade, especially given how common two-year contracts are.Ok but people need to stop with the “this isn’t a compelling upgrade from the 7”. I’m going from a 7 to an 8+. Granted I may be in the minority, but IMO its a worthy upgrade.I am upgrading from my 7+ to the 8+ because a family member is going to "steal" my 7+ soon. It was hard getting it back last night!
Looking forward to the 8+ AND iOS11

I'm going to the 8 from the 6. Main reason is the 64gb compared to the 7's 32gb is a no brainier for me.

Verge scored it 8 out of 10
His final thoughts
After spending a week with the 8, I can’t think of a single compelling reason to upgrade from an iPhone 7. The 7 is still extremely fast, offers virtually the same design in a lighter package with a bigger battery, and will get almost every feature of the 8 with iOS 11. If you really want Qi wireless charging, you can get a slim $15 case that supports it. And if you’re dying for Portrait Lighting, there are tons of photo apps in the App Store that offer similar effects. Of course, if you're upgrading from anything older than an iPhone 7, the improvements in the camera and the overall speed of the phone are going to really impress you.
Performance wise the reviewer didn't see a big difference from the iphone 7
It also has 3GB of RAM instead of 1GB that the 6 has.

ARKit? Face Tracking? Animoji's? iPhone 8 will never have that. Sounds like the reviewer had a bias.
The 8 will run ARKit apps just as well as the X. From what we know so far, the "animoji" front camera (vs. Touch ID) is the only functional difference between the 8 and the X.ARKit? Face Tracking? Animoji's? iPhone 8 will never have that. Sounds like the reviewer had a bias.

As a 6s+ owner, I'm upgrading to the iPhone 8+ because it only cost me $119 to do so with the Apple Upgrade Plan. I'm looking forward to the additional camera, wireless charging, glass back (going to go caseless if I can!), and .... yeah that's bout it. If it had cost more out of pocket, I definitely would have kept my 6s+.
Monthly payments on my 6s+ with the Apple Upgrade Plan are $44.xx and the 8+ will be $45.xx (close to $46).
This is why consumers' review have more credibility over these 4K editing brand tech reviewers.Wow, just 1:30 into the video and the reviewer has made so many excuses on the review as to why this isn't the X, and how the X is the future (I'm not saying its not). It's like he's begrudgingly doing the interview but doesn't really see the need
