Been thinking about getting the iPhone 8 Plus or X on the iPhone Upgrade program. However I can't decide which one!
I have the iPhone 6 after selling my 7 Plus because I wanted a smaller phone for a bit, but now I miss the big phone.

Basically on the upgrade program, with the initiation fee, it's about £50 a month for the iPhone 8 Plus and about £12.50 more a month for the iPhone X (so £62.50). It's not that much of a price difference (about £130 more after 11 months). I personally really like the iPhone X's screen quality with it's OLED display, I'm just unsure if I can justify spending £12.50 more a month just on a screen.

What would you guys go for/gone for?

The devices are really a personal choice. I have the X, coming from 7+ and previously the 6s. All of them are great devices but I chose the X over the 8+ because of the extra features like the OLED screen, Animoji and FaceID, but mainly I went with the X because it offered a larger screen size compared to my 7+, and in a relatively smaller overall device size. I’m happy with my choice, again it’s a matter of personal choice. Hope that helps.

iPhone X is the future of iPhone so you should buy into that. Better screen, more secure, gorgeous design, and Apple has packed a lot of cool new technology into that controversial "notch".

My Suggestion would be to sample both iPhones in a store and find out what you like best about both models. I agree that the price difference is not that significant with your monthly payment, so you really should just make your decision based on what you find to be more comfortable and what features you appreciate better between both iPhones.

I went with the 8 Plus because I don’t have to worry about the screen burning out. Also the longer battery life, and TouchID works faster than FaceID and is more discreet. I couldn’t care less about gimicks like Animoji and such.

I keep and use my phones for many years though. If I upgraded every year or two I might have gone with the X. There’s no doubt the smaller footprint of the X is more comfortable to carry around.

The X is far more than just a screen upgrade. I'd go handle one at the store for a few minutes to see if you like the size and feel of it. My 8 plus is way too big and primitive looking for my wife, and her X is too small in my hand, even though I don't have big hands. Make your decision based on the phone, not the price. I've seen way too many people try to convince themselves they didn't want the X, when they really did want it but didn't like the cost. The X is far more advanced and interesting, so give it a shot. Last thing you want is an expensive 8 plus when you wish you had spent a few more bucks on an X that you truly wanted.

If you are willing to splurge hundreds of dollars because you are unhappy with the screen size of a perfectly functional iPhone 6, then you ought to really closely look at the screen size of the X versus the Plus. Screen size wise, the X is in between the 8 and the 8+... you got to decide whether that difference is worth the money that is going to be taken from you.

I see about the burning screen, however I guess I'd hopefully be on the Upgrade Program (which includes Applecare+) so they'd presumably have to replace it for free if that happened?

Do not ask other people's opinions. Do not rely on posts on forums. This is a decision you need to make based on your own personal needs / likes. Go and compare the two phones and see for yourself which one would best suit your needs. After all, it's going to be YOUR phone, you need to be comfortable with what your using.

Thing is, the iPhone 7 Plus felt too big in store, but I just went for it and loved it. Now that I've had the 6, to me, the iPhone 8 Plus seems kinda bulky (however I know I'll get used to it like I did the 7 Plus), and the X seems too long. I know I'd get used to both, so at the moment I really have no proper preference. The reason I'm indecisive is because I don't want to buy the 8 Plus and then wish I'd spent only £100 about more for the X.

Not everyone has an Apple Store nearby, but if you do, definitely go by and try them both out yourself
Opinions of others can give you some information, but there is nothing like your own hands on experience

I'd get the X and return it within 14 days if you're not happy. You already know how a plus phone feels.

Face ID is at least 20 times more secure.

The odds of some random person being able to unlock your iPhone X with Face ID is 1 in 1,000,000.
The odds of some random person being able to unlock your iPhone 8 with Touch ID is 1 in 50,000.

And the odds of some nefarious character having my phone and trying to unlock it is 1 in a billion or more. I’d feel safe with worthier method. :)

8 plus is longer than the X.

8 plus is longer than the X.

The actual screen isn't though, is it? I mean I found it difficult to swipe up from the bottom because of the way I hold the phone, it was kind of hard for my thumb

I got the 8 plus, coming from the 6s and thought it was too big for my daily use. Loved the gold color though.

I swapped it out for the X. It's not without its issues, but I'm generally happy.

I went from a 7+ to an X, and really like the form factor. About the only issue I have is sometimes I pick it up upside down, and wonder why it doesn't unlock :)

The size, for me and how I use it, is better with the X. I like to carry in shirt pocket, and the + needed a belt clip for me.

I still have the 7+, so will be using it this next week. Trip to Colorado, and the 7+ has the otter box case.

Overall yes, screen no

Get iPhone X. iPhone 8 Plus = iPhone 7 Plus with minor tweaks. You had iPhone 7 Plus before, so if you buy iPhone 8 Plus, you will get back iPhone 7 Plus with minor tweaks and the money you are going to spend is for minor tweaks such as better processor, True Tone and other minor improvements, which are no big deals.

8 plus is bigger in terms of screen real estate compared to X. You should know that before making your decision.

Yes I know that, I was saying that the screen isn't longer on the iPhone 8 Plus than the iPhone X.

I sold my 8 Plus this week and got an X, loving it up to now, the edge to edge display is great, love having no bezels, Face ID has its faults, but Touch ID wasn’t perfect first time either. Screen is gorgeous too

I realised I wanted the X when I was in a store a couple of weeks ago, used it for 5 mins or so and I was sold

So like other have said, if this is an option for you it;s best to give it a try

Or as mentioned worst case buy an X if you don’t like it after 10 days return it and get an 8 Plus
