But when I was researching the Note 7 before the issues cropped up with that phone, I saw a few complaints on Note 7 forums about uneven displays as well. I don't know how that could happen, but there were a few posts about it.

But it's far less than what occurs with ips displays. Your chance of getting a good OLED display is far better than getting a good IPS display .

This is why OLED displays will save the hassle......

Until you find out Apple got a bit of a naff screen on the iPhone X compared to Android flagships. It looks dim compared to 2017 flagship OLED displays on rival hardware. Samsung wasn't going to give Apple the absolute best were they? Or was it more of the fact that Apple wouldn't pay for the best display? Hmm.

Apple is all about profit. They would never buy the top of the line amoled display no matter what some may think. They purchased a display that takes care of their needs and still looks amazing compared to a LCD display. It's a reason why that ppi and resolution is so low.

I looked at my 8+ and it is even top to bottom so you should be able to find one

Both my sister's and my iPhone 8 Plus's are uniformly white.

You're probably right about that. My point was that no display tech is ever perfect.

Would apple just use a product that samsung is already manufacturing? Samsung owns manufacturing plants, I would assume that apple could have designed the AMOLED and samsung is simply the manufacturer.

Its the same when apple designs their Ax Processors and samsung or TSCM manufactures them. I guess we won't every really know if its an off the shelf Samsung AMOLED or a custom one.

Well the replacement phone definitely has the same issue. Not sure I can be bothered changing it again. Plus they seemed to do the credit check again when I swapped, I don’t really want a bunch of credit checks on my record!

But it would be a soft pull this time rather than hard hit. So even if they did a credit check again, I doubt it will show on your report. I signed up last year on iUP for the 7 Plus and this year upgraded to the 8 Plus and was a soft pull. Doesn't show up on my report at all.

id rate OPs screen marginal. heres mine on full brightness for comparison:

oh man I made a account just for this thread to post in. so hello y'all.

I got my iPhone 8 last week and had it exchanged because of the same problem, yesterday the replacement arrived and the replacement has the same problem. now, it is not as bad as on the first one..but I can't un-see it. I'm thinking about keeping this one tho and next year I'll have the display exchanged. It seems to be a more "common" problem than I thought, but a lot of people are not as sensitive as I am to it. My wife for example said she would not see it without me pointing it out.

I'm definitely sympathetic. I've had many OLED and LCD screens and always seen banding or uniformity issues that I couldn't un-see. I'd say with OLED it was more to do with colour variance. I'm REALLY picky about this, probably neurotic.

Having said that I'm thanking my lucky stars on this 8 Plus I've gotten. Even looking for unevenness, I don't really find any. I'm always worried getting a new smartphone that the screen will have some defect that I can't un-see.
[doublepost=1507133379][/doublepost]Yeah, I just looked again and toggled Trutone. Definitely the most consistent LCD panel I've ever owned, but I think it's totally luck of the draw.

I bought an iPad Pro today and had the exact same issue. At first I thought I was being pedantic but it bugged me so much I went back and got a replacement. I was expecting it to be the same or similar but thankfully this screen is perfect.

So my suggestion get it replaced.

I am on my 4th and they all have color/tint uniformity issues. I decided to just give up and keep this 4th one. The first one was actually the best I think. Go figure. Literally every display model at my local apple store had issues with uneven color/tone. I guess some people just can't see it and some people it will make go crazy. I never had any issue with my 6 Plus however.

8+ with a uniform screen, no dead pixels, dust etc. Pretty much perfect, although my iPad Pro 10.5 has a faint yellow band where the home button is.

Can you please post a pic of your screen?

Replacement phone from my carrier arrived today. Yay!

The first one is on its way back to Apple. Dead pixel/dust particle and so-so uniformity.

The display on this one is without a doubt better. I have not been able to find any dead pixels or stuck particles. No backlight bleed and very little edge glow at max brightness on a black screen in a dark room. Edge lighting is also much better in general. No bluish glow coming from the left, right or bottom edges. Slight glow at the top, but nothing serious and still better than my old 6+.

Overall uniformity is not as good as my old 6+, which is about the most uniform LCD display I’ve ever seen, so hard to beat, but it is noticeably better than the phone I returned. It has the same problem with the bottom being a little less bright than the top, resulting in the bottom seeming a bit warmer than the top. This is most noticeable when the display is cold or when night shift and true tone is enabled while having the display at a low brightness setting. After about 10 seconds, it’s very subtle though. You have to actively look for it. I think most people would classify that display as being perfect. I have a feeling I would have to go through many returns to get something as good or better than that and I think I can get used to it, so not worth the hassle. The true tone display is a lot easier on my eyes than the beautiful but harsh bluish display of my 6+. Colors also pop more, especially red, on this 8+. The red Mario Run icon has so much more depth to it compared to my old 6+. I hope I don’t run into any issues because I really do want to keep this one and enjoy the amazing performance compared to my old 6+. It’s a beast of a phone.

My 8 plus is uneven as well! Just noticed today, even measured distance at the bottom on both corners. Its off lol.

I eventually went back to my 6S, the screen was just a bit irritating ... might try again in a couple of months

Definitely strange. Perhaps early on production issues. It's just unusual for Apple to have on uniformity display issues with their iPhones.

Hahah, that's more usual than sun rising with iPhone's screens. In fact, I have never seen even iPhone screen and I've had plenty of them..

This is a shot of my 8 Plus taken with my old 6. As I said, I think the color is consistent. You can see along the bottom edge that it's a little softer than along the top. Then shot seems to exaggerate the brightness at the centre of the screen. I'm annoyed that I found this thread because it's had me peering at my screen when previously I wasn't thinking about it. Easy to wake my OCD...
