Not sure why you find this humorous. Not everyone would know this and or maybe would have a concern if something was wrong with the display. Clearly others do not this either, even on a tech site.

Because I am on phone 5 and they have all been terrible. It’s really quite unbelievable they can get away with this on such a premium product.

Phew - I thought I was the only one having this issue. When I first got the phone at my ISP I spotted the reddish tint at the bottom, was told not to worry - it's true tone etc.. but took it anyway as I was too excited.

After that, kept reading reviews but no one reported uneven display until here today. Lucky I managed to get a replacement at Apple store few days back after convincing them for 1hr I managed to get a replacement. The replacement unit is not as bright, yellowish tint but at least it's uniform. When they had the store one against mine there was a clear difference viewed at an angle.

I returned 3 iMacs in the past because of uneven color and refuse to buy one until they got it right. It's a shame.. hopefully OLED will solve this problem for good.

I say anyone with uneven display hurry and get it replaced.

I returned a few MacBooks with the same issues. One I settled on really wasn’t any better, but I eventually stopped noticing. I hope that’s the case for the phone too.

Had a MBP that had great display but I had the coat peeling issue - probably one of the first to convince Apple tech and eventually got a replacement. It happened again and luckily Apple replaced the screen out of warranty. So far good so hopefully they have resolved the coating issue for good.

Apple staff are nice people and they will listen and will try their best to sort it out.

I have found the best way to show uneven tint is to take a picture of an all black screen in a dark room. It megnifies the issue so you can really see where the screen is uneven.

Here are my last 3 phones. This is what I am seeing in real world settings, obviously more faintly on a white screen. Phone 1 and 3 haave a red tint on the left side. Note phone 3 I put the protective film back on cause I was sending back. Phone 2 was the worst in all regards with a different tint in all 4 corners. It also had sort of dark lines along he edge on a white screen as well and had bad backlight bleed at the bottom that shows up.

Here is my wife’s SE. it’s much better than all of the 8+ imo. I would take that screen all day.

Here is my MacBook Pro Retina. It drove me crazy and went through a bunch of exchanges but after a while i stopped focusing on the issue I did not notice it anymore. I am hoping this is the same case with the phone. I can’t keep making exchanges for the 1 in a million shot I get a good one. I’m am going to stick with the phone in the first picture

Some variation of the photos above seems to be very common. I would argue that even a “perfect” screen probably has some degree, however slight, of the issues above. My 8 Plus has the reddish hue on the left but it’s very minor. Most wouldn’t see it.

I completely agree with you. Those who look for imperfections, will find them. Very few and far between have perfect LCD displays. Some LCD displays have more issues than others, but slight imperfections is likely not uncommon either. Most consumers likely don't look for imperfections with their iPhones, contrary to how tech enthusiasts will look for imperfections.

Screen uniformity is not an issue. It’s an annoyance but not an issue. There is no perfectly uniform lcd screen imo. I have this issue on every Apple product I have including iPads, iPhones and macs. Just accept it.

I had iPhone 7 Plus which had uneven display and reddish tint at bottom. Exchanged it once but the new one had same issue but to a milder degree. But the display was slightly yellowish in both phones. Kept for 03 months and sold.

Seems I am lucky enough to get an 8plus with evenly backlit display without varying tint.
The only issue is that white is slightly yellowish compared to Samsung Galaxy S8+ / iPhone 6s Plus.

Seems apple is intentionally calibrating the whites to be warm with tinge of yellow. I am keeping it cuz the display is perfect when it comes to even brightness across the entire span.

My only issue with such replies are that much cheaper phones have amazingly even displays. I was using a Honor 8 and a Moto G5 plus for some time. Perfectly even.

Its this mentality of allowing apple get away with it thats maybe not coercing apple to do anything about it.

It’s only an 8. Which Apple has plenty of. Just return it and buy another one and reset your 14 days. It’s your duty to stick it to the man (Apple).

This is why OLED displays will save the hassle......

Eh, if anything, OLED displays are known for being less uniform than LCD screens. A certain percentage of displays, no matter how expensive or what technology, will always have some defects. No display assembly line rolls out 100% defect free displays. My iPhone X display looks perfect, as does my wife's, but I had serious issues with the Galaxy S6 a couple years ago. Returned 6 (SIX!) of those and still couldn't get a perfectly uniform display.
