I have been reading that the new iPhone 8 will not have TMobiles new band 71 support. Is it possible they can be added with a software update at a later time or maybe a revised Iphone at a later date? If I'm wanting band 71 supports would it be safe to buy the new iPhone 8 or should I wait and see.

No. Bands aren't ever added later (even if they theoretically *could* be added with a software update) as this would require re-certification with the FCC. Not gonna happen. Sorry.

If you want Band 71 in an iPhone wait until next year.

If you need an iPhone this year you'll have to do without Band 71.

But really, other than future proofing, what are you really going to miss?

T-Mobile had three other LTE bands already.

Band 71 is 600 It will work well in rural areas.

Get the V30 and pretend it's an iPhone If your area got or is getting band 71 by end of year

1. T-mobile is still rolling out that band in the next couple of years
2. The only phone supporting it today is the LG V30

So even if you wanted the current iPhone to support it, by the time the rollout is done, you would be buying a new iPhone. There’s no need to worry about it now.

I am asking for my aunt and uncle they are currently with AT&T and they have iPhone 5S e. They still have payments on them. They travel from Louisville Kentucky to Southwest Florida three or four times a year. They are wanting to come to T-Mobile for the 55 and over plan. With the traveling that is why they are interested in the 600 megahertz band. Would it be better to buy a iPhone 7 with jump and next year jump to the new iPhone with the band 71 support?

If they need a new phone now I would jump to the 8/+/X now and jump next year.
