I was at the Apple Store on launch day to pick up an iPhone 17 Pro in Cosmic Orange. I held the iPhone Air in hand and thought about the feature comparison and stuck with my Pro. Two weeks go by and I just couldn't stop thinking about how awesome the Air felt in hand and decided to swap.

I am seeing a lot of people on these forums as well as on social media sites saying they came from the Pro Max line wanting something lighter-- I am one of those individuals. I thought the Pro would be a better choice coming from the 16PM, but I just couldn't shake the desire for the Air.

Honestly, I notice the compromises when I look for them, and I try not to justify the purchase of the Air. I just appreciate that Apple offers a variety of phone choices and specs.

There is Story going around, not sure if verified yet.. but Apple has cut production of the air from slow sales, I’m not sure how much of a cut. I’m glad I got mine.

It's only natural for those who bought the air to defend it. Nobody likes to admit defeat.

While it's certainly not a bad phone, Apples greed is very obvious. Overpriced, lacking a comparable feature set to its competitor the Samsung S25 Edge, leaves iPhone Air looking like an also ran.

Apple buyers know what comprises an outstanding iPhone and this isn't it.
I'll never buy a pro phone and I think 90% of Pro users refuse to actually open their mind to the face that they're wasting the money. If you gave them the regular or the Air, and told them it was a Pro, they wouldn't notice the camera difference, battery difference, speed/performance difference, etc. Mine has all-day battery life, videos are fantastic, pics are awesome, and it's got great feel. Very happy with this.

Let me change my words, it’s not an attractive looking phone compared to other phones on the market. The 16 pro was way better looking. The 17 also feels cheap with all that aluminum. The pro was built for power, battery and camera and the air was built for design. Simple. I preferred the design knowing that I don’t need 8x zoom or wide lens, or mmWave, or Lidar sensors. The battery matches my 16 pro. So I’m not making any sacrifices and everything to gain.
Who are you trying to convince? Yourself or us?

You really need to touch grass if you think it's about "admitting defeat" or that these phone choices are actually that deep.

The longer I've had the Air the less I care about the "compromises" from the Pro line. This is the most I've liked a phone since the 13PM. I don't need the larger heavier Pro line at all, nor do I need to defeat people on the internet about their own choice.

While you aggressively insult a person because they disagreed with your choice of phone.

The Air customers are becoming like the mini customers.

The OP’s usage seems similar to mine. I often get by charging my iPhone 14 about every two days and sometimes three. As such I think I could likely be quite satisfied with an iPhone Air. I’m quite intrigued by it and go-to reviewers I tend to trust online have given it positive and fair reviewes.

If I chose to upgrade I’d be looking at a 16e, 17 or 17 Air and any of them would be an upgrade over my 14.

You really seem to want to make it into a drama that it just isn't, which makes my point for me. Well done.

I’m convinced that a lot of people who buy the PM only get it because it’s big and expensive, and therefore they think it’s the best. When in fact most of them would get along fine with a base model for their needs.

I returned the Air after two weeks of use, as I found myself trying to justify the experience despite not being genuinely satisfied. Retaining the Air would have still required me to carry my S25U, which diminished the convenience I was hoping for. Considering the combined cost of the Air and the additional battery pack, opting for the PM proved to be a more practical and worthwhile choice. The Air’s only real advantage was its form factor and lightweight design.

Ultimately, I chose the 17PM and have been genuinely satisfied with the decision.
I love my Air. I bought the 17 Pro also and it feels like an absolute brick in comparison. I figured would use the Air for personal life and travel with the Pro for cameras. Also, put the eSIM for my work phone on the 17 Pro. I got the white Air and think it’s amazing to hold and nothing is missing for me on a day-to-day use scenario. But again for travel I would miss the cameras. Battery life is way better than most expected. Speaker situation doesn’t bother me as I use AirPods Pro most the time when using it for music or calls.

Overall, I think the iPhone Air is the first iPhone I have loved since the iPhone 4/4S.

There is some good information in this forum to help you decide if you want to go with an iphone Air. Personally, I prefer the Pro or Pro Max.

Reading this thread feels like I'm being transported to an Elementary school playground with kids fighting about the most ridiculous things...

You have an amazing iPhone that has ProMotion and more Pro features than its ever had before.
You have a super thin iPhone that has ultra-luxe looks with some compromises that don't matter to many that want that type of device.
You have Pro models in two different sizes that are very capable phones.

Get off the playground, enjoy whatever phone you want, you don't need to justify it to others to like it, or put down other peoples choices because they like what works for them.

It's so odd to see how many of these threads exist.

To be fair it's mostly been Air owners who feel like they have some kind of superiority complex and are trying to belittle Pro owners.

I have no idea how a "console wars" type thing happened here but it feels like there are a bunch of Air owners trying to rationalize spending 1000 on a phone with the feature set of a 500 buck phone all cause its a tiny bit thinner. So their method of doing so is putting down anyone who doesn't have an Air.

I get it, it doesn't matter to me what the phone is, I wish people would just live with their decisions and enjoy whatever they choose to buy and use!

Lol are you new to the internet? It doesn't work like that here (or anywhere on the internet).

I agree with you but this was going to happen. For many people, they may never use the second camera, but if it's not there then they think it's awful.

My only concern is if they discontinue it. I hope, like their other air products, they keep making it and improving it.
