And it will continue to be, for me and virtually everybody I spoke with about this. The tele lens is so much more useful than the ultrawide.

I use the wide angle lens too often to not have one. This update will let me consider the iPhone Air 2

The wide angle lenses on the iPhones are a contradiction of sorts for me.
There are times when I switch to it and frame something up that will only fit in at 0.5x on my iPhone Mini, but ultimately I hate the output from those shots and remind myself of it and never really use it.
If I could swap out the wide angle lens for a 2x lens on my iPhone Mini, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Weight savings for one. You ever dropped your phone on your face reading the Kindle app late at night? No bueno lol.

They aren't getting a second camera in the back of this thing, not without making the plateau significantly larger, and then you start to defeat the point of it.

Only to get 2X? Maybe if it was 3X or 4X. As it stands the Air's 1X/1.4X/2X (crop) modes handle most of my uses just fine.

No second speaker is garbage. (Yes, it matters, even if you don't personally have a need for it.)

I doubt there will be the iPhone 19, same as we never had iPhone 9. Apple don’t seem to like the number 9.

For me, it's the lightness and pocketability. The bump is the equivalent of throwing a couple of quarters in my pocket. Funny since it's called the Air and all, right?

The original Air was more premium and more expensive than the 17, but with fewer features and less battery life. I think the two phones are geared toward different groups. That said, the regular 17 was so much improved from before, and had significant advantages over the $200 more expensive Air.
The new chip/modem/etc in the Air 2 may improve efficiency enough to eke out additional battery life, and maybe prevent the phone from getting as hot as often as the Air 1. But the magnitude of these gains could be too small to improve sales, we’ll have to wait and see.
I don’t use the extra wide angle camera, but many do so that might help sales, especially if battery life improves by a meaningful amount.
Titanium is classier IMHO, but it’s objectively worse at thermal management, and there’s no room in the Air for a vapor chamber cooling system, which works surprisingly well on my 17 Pro.
Well, you can’t have everything. But will the Air 2 be improved enough to sell significantly better than Air 1?
So that means that we are going to skip to iPhone 100 since we think that apple hates the number 9? Great, the largest number skip in history. from 88 to 100.

If this releases with stereo speakers, even if they’re stereo but those vibration-based ones that are supposedly coming to iPad Air, and an extra camera, they’ve likely got a sale from me.
Only reason I didn’t spring for the air was because of the lack of stereo speakers and I guess battery life. I could sort of forgive the single camera but I use my iPhone as an office music player at work quite often so lack of stereo was a big compromise for me. I generally don’t support downgrading things moving to a newer product.

I think the second camera on the Air 2 will be a wide angle, not a telephoto. I’m with you, the telephoto lens is really important to me. If the 17 had it, I might have bought a 17 instead of a 17 Pro.
Gen 1 iPhone Air has been a win for me. The feel of it is so premium compared to the other models in the lineup. A second speaker is the only thing that was a miss, but I'll use headphones when that's needed. Everyone has different tastes and needs. I happen to really like the Air.
Love my Air but I’ll only upgrade to this is there’s no rumours of an Air 3.
I really love the Air so I can't wait to see the Air 2. I would love it just a little more if the plateau was flat so it doesn't wobble on the table, so if the two camera setup lessens the wobble then I'll be thrilled.

Honestly I think the Air will sell well enough to justify another version. It solves everything I disliked about the first one, I hope it has a vapor chamber as well.
