First work week with the Air. The Air was on cellular 1-2 bars around 10-12 hours each day. The battery life appears to be similar to my 2yo 6.1" iPhone 15 Pro. I set cellular data to LTE-only 9/25 onwards (for better upload speed indoors) and that change seems to have improved battery life as well.

I'm a very light phone user. Most of the drain is from background tasks and bluetooth devices.

If you own a Tesla and have terrible iPhone battery life, make sure that the phone key isn’t draining your phone battery

This doesn’t show up under the Tesla app usage stats, but it absolutely eats up battery.

Look for an entry with a car key icon next to your Tesla’s name showing as “connected” under Settings > Bluetooth.

The only work around I found is to swipe up and fully quit the Tesla app and make sure it’s not running when I’m home.

FWIW I have a Tesla and the phone key isn’t draining my battery.

To be clear, I’m not saying it isn’t draining yours or others’, but just that it isn’t draining mine.

@profets - if you’re willing to try deleting your phone key and Tesla app for a day and see if it makes a difference then it might be worth trying before going through the hassle of exchanging the phone.

Good thoughts - sorry missed these posts when I was reading through last night.

I noticed Tesla app in my battery use, even though I think it was showing ~2%?

I can definitely disable the phone key in the app and try for a few days without it, happy to test it out like that. Side note here as well - I don't recall exactly when, but newer Teslas and recent iPhones I think use UWB for more precision with location accuracy. I noticed with a more recent Tesla I have that it flashes and unlocks as I approach within a few feet and same as I walk away. Not sure if or how it might affect battery life in general anyway.

First full day of the Air in the real world/home and I would honestly say this is abnormally high use for me since I was using a lot of cellular data (e.g. YouTube) while waiting in my car and I sold my iPad so it did a lot of heavy lifting at home on the couch that normally wouldn't happen.

Whilst charging 19:00-23:00, did you use it? Should I subtract something from that number? 8.5 hours with YouTube cellular, if brightness was outdoors level (reasonably high), is quite decent, and in line with other users.

Still not as good as iPhones with higher capacity, but it looks normal for the Air.

Maybe for like 30min I pulled it back of the charger. Most test like the new one from PhoneBuff seem to be about 6.5hrs of non-stop use so I could see that for sure. Really not bad given the thinness.

Much heavier day for me (out and about since 10:45am). Will need to charge before bed tonight.

first day with the phone and wanted to 100-0 it to see how long it would last
coming from a 14 PM this feels pretty good to me

This battery is working out fine for me. But the screen idle time is definitely not true. However so far I’m very happy with this.

This full cycle in one day is pretty interesting, can you expand a little on that?

What were your settings? Brightness level? Background app refresh? Mail push? Cellular or Wi-Fi?

What did you use it for, can you share a screenshot of the apps?

I set my air up as a brand new device, I have zero apps installed on it and have deleted some of the preinstalled apple ones.
I had the exact same settings as the 16 and 17 pro max in terms of display and my battery life is still terrible.
I think I have found the culprit though.
I have noticed the always on display screen goes completely off on the other 2 phones with low ambient light whereas the air only goes off if I actually cover the ambient light sensor
As seen on this screen shot the display has used 3% of my battery already

I have initiated a return with apple and I am going to try another air as I suspect this one has a fault

If the battery life experience is still similar to what I’m getting I will be keeping the pro max.
Love this phone for everything other than the battery so far

1.30pm. 1 hour 30 screen time and I’m down 20% battery from starting
Device set up from new as I believed my transfer may have been the issue but obviously not the case

So strange. Almost the same Safari usage, and look at the difference:
If my iPhone air was using battery like yours is I would be very happy indeed.
Apple have ran diagnostics and said all is fine with the phone.
I don’t have my Tesla connected to it or my Apple Watch.
No Bluetooth devices, auto brightness on same as always for me, settings all the same as usual

100% thinking I have a dud

Here’s my Air’s Wednesday test.

Started the day with the Air and the Air MagSafe Battery at 100%.

IMG_1021.png

Had light use and the Air worked itself down to 90% and then ran off the battery. In the afternoon I removed the Air Battery once it was 0%.

IMG_1025.jpeg

Continued to use the Air until bedtime. Ended at 49% for a day of light use.

basically on wifi the entire time apart from about 2 hours, leaving it off for today though to see how bad it gets

played some games, played around with the camera, doomscrolled on x/tiktok for like 2 of those hours, used navigation for 45 minutes, listened to music and replied to a bunch of messages, youtube for an hour, using safari to browse for a while; I just used the phone as i normally would.

background app refresh is on for most apps, i keep brightness around 40%, push mail is off, dark mode is on (using a bright wallpaper however so not sure if i get much benefit there)

Overnight from 11pm to 6:30am, my iPhone Air lost about 5% battery life while it was off the charger. I think that’s pretty normal, but can’t explain the screen idle time when I first wake up.

After using the phone a little while, the battery usage gets more confusing and find my isn’t the battery suck it first appeared to be:

Not sure what to make of it, or if a setup phone as new is needed.

I think that’s very good. Your usage was very heavy. Social media scrolling + GPS is heavy. It is similar to others: 8 hours of SOT with heavy use.

It might be normal, but check that you have no signal. That kills batteries.

The other user started from 100%. You didn’t. The 100-99% percentage points lasts about 7 to 8 times longer. Start from 100% and you will get a similar result.

That's interesting to see with the MagSafe battery. I take it when starting with phone & battery at 100% it'll run down the MagSafe battery first prior to the phone battery?

Yes I tried from 100% the other day and still have very similar results unfortunately

Been getting similar battery life every day with variations for screen on times and the amount of 5G I’ve used.

So far very satisfied with the battery life, charge it once a day when it is below 50% and use a 90% charge limit. Might even lower my charge limit to 85%.

@Honey_crisp quick update. deleted the Tesla app outright just to test. Better day today, though still not great.

Took off charge at 5:20am, light / casual use type of day around home. 9.5 hours into the day I'm at 50%. Much better than before, though SOT 1:40.

IMG_0035.jpg

Still can't imagine getting 6-8 hours SOT in a day like many people have posted. Though to be honest I'm not expecting crazy all day battery life with heavy use. I'm happy to get through a day where I can top up here and there if needed. Trade off I'm willing to make if needed. But this week I'm going to swap it and see if there's difference with a new device.

With both Air and MagSafe battery at 100%, it uses the Air until its battery is 90%. Then it starts using the MagSafe battery. The Air’s battery stayed at 90% until the MagSafe battery was depleted.
