goodafternoon from The Netherlands... ;)

really happy with my Air, (Sky Blue) always had the Pro models (13,14,15,16) but this is the first time in years Apple surprised me with a new iPhone.
The color is almost white, with a dash of blue, depending on the (angle of) light
Feather light and a very nice grip (much better compared to my 16 Pro) which is very important to me.
I am using my Air without a case.
Coming from 6,3 inch Pro models before it's not a truly one handed device anymore for me.

A real craftmanship by Apple.

Mono speaker is still pretty good, I think the sound is still rich even with one speaker. Tested with FaceTime, some Youtube videos and Netflix.

my Air did not even get really hot during setup and restoring from backup, you would think because of the thin design it would get easily get hot. I would say it was luke warm haha.

I am really glad I choose the Air over the Pro.
I did not like the colors , thickness/weight of the 17 Pro.

Really amazed by the design of this Air. And all the negative posts/topics here about the mono speaker are so overblown in the real world

I picked up the same one, 256gb sky blue air.

Must say, I knew that the blue was very subdued, but didn’t think it would be quite as light as it is.

Maybe they could have gone with ‘not quite white’ instead of ‘sky blue’!? 🤣

In any case, it matters not. The phone is great 👍

Waiting for mine, also sky blue and also in Netherlands. I wish the blue was a little more blue-er. I think I'll have to return mine for a black.
Yeah, it's more white with a dash of blue. Really depending on the light like under the sun or a lamp.
Think the black version is also really nice.

Nice! Did you max out the volume? How does it sounds with only 4-5 clicks up instead of full max volume bars?
tested both with maxed out or with 3-4-5 clicks bars. For a smartphone its really pretty good for a iPhone with a mono speaker.
Really, for me all of these posts/topics of the mono speaker here on the forums are so overblown (like al lot of other topics here)

Makes me chuckle, the speaker on the phone is basically just for sound effect alerts and the occasional 'play 20 seconds of the song you want to show someone'. No one is using the thing long term as a music speaker.

exactly, for me the iPhone speaker is usually for short term listening. In other cases I am using my AirPods.

I think Light Gold is the same. I’m heading to the Apple Store in a couple of hours to pickup my AirPods Pro 3 and to see the iPhones in person and decide whether I should cancel my Pro Max pre-order and go with the Air instead!

it probably did get hot, but the heat is all up by the camera plateau (which is where all the internals are other than the battery) where your hands don't rest

So I’ve just unboxed my iPhone Air and wanted to give my first impressions. Also would be interested to hear yours.

So my first impression is wow. Taking it out of the case - it felt different. It feels like a new product. I’m coming from a pro max, I’ve just been upgrading and it hasn’t filled me with too much excitement as I get used to it and forget about it.

But this air has really got me excited - the most since my first iPhone (iPhone 4).

So the way it feels is amazing and my pro max already feels very heavy and bulky. The screen quality is fantastic (as we expected). The size seems exactly what I wanted as well, pro max had been feeling too big for me in recent years so the air is sized perfectly in between pro and pro max.

The performance so far seems very good. It has pretty much the same chip as the others so that’s expected. Things are very snappy and quick.

Now we have to talk about the compromises.

Battery life has been addressed by the reviews - it is comparable to previous years iPhone. It’s good but not great. I will miss the 1.5-2 days of battery life I get when I get a new pro max but I’m happy enough with the air’s battery life as it is.

The camera is good. From my early testing and similar to the reviews, the normal shots are pretty much identical to the other models. Some small details where depth is involved favours the other models but it’s very difficult to spot. Low light performance is great. We know about the lack of ultra wide - I will miss it for sure but I rarely used it.

Now I did notice the one speaker only when I played a video landscape. When using the phone normally, other than being a bit quieter - didn’t really notice it. I only use landscape sometimes, not very often - so I can live without it. No doubt Apple will ‘innovate’ a future iteration of the air with stereo speakers and ‘change everything’ again.

In terms of bending - no issues there. I won’t try on mine but the reviews have made it pretty clear it’s an unbelievably strong phone.

I run my phones with no case and no screen protector. The air just feels like something else. As I said, the last time I was this excited was with iPhone 4.

So those are my early thoughts on the air. It’s the model I wanted for years and now I have it.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts, positive or negative.

Edit:

Having spent a bit more time with it and comparing to my pro max model. The single speaker is noticeably worse than the Pro Max. It will depend on how important that is to you. It's not terrible, it's acceptable but it's certainly a worse listening experience than the Pro Max. It's not enough of a deal breaker to me BUT it could be for someone else. I know I'll get used to it pretty quick and won't notice it - in fact that's starting to happen already.

Still prefer the air. I've been examining it constantly, holding it, eyeing from different angles. It's brought back the excitement from the Steve Jobs era (for me), great product with a sleek design. He would go on stage and say things like 'look how thin it is, isn't that magnificent?'

I'm happy I got the air - as opposed to upgrading to another pro max model which I would have unboxed, restore from backup and then pretty much forget I even have a new phone.

Question about the sides and comfort level of holding.

My big complaint on the last few iphones I have had, including the 16 Pro I now have, is that it is very uncomfortable to hold due to the flat sides and right angle sharp edges on the sides. The sides literally dig into my palm and fingers. This was never the case with older phones that had the rounded sides. How are the sides on the Air? Are the sides and side edges any more rounded? Or is it still the same feel as the 16, 15, 14, etc?

Did you check the camera yet?

Went to see the new iPhones. The colors are very light. Blue is barely blue in most lighting conditions. In some cases it is a bit darker. Almost looks white sometimes.

Ya that pretty much looks white to me. How is the light gold in person? Does it have more color, or just a very warm white?

Let us know how you go. There’s been a few reports already of people set on a P/PM only to change their mind once they see the Air in the flesh.

I was floored when I first picked it up in store. Truly harks back to IP X in my opinion.
