I have had the 17pro since launch day in the silver. AND if I am being honest, I am sick of how ugly and bulky I find this phone. I don't think I can live with it until September. Last night I ordered the Air in the *****/gold colour from Amazon UK. They currently have the 256gb for £819. How is everyone else getting on with the Air?? Tell me I have done the right thing...😛

I originally got the Air on release day. It was an amazing device in looks & comfort, hands down the most comfortable iPhone to use on sale now ❤️

However I found the compromises a little too much, especially the lack of an ultrawide camera & to a lesser extent the battery life and single speaker when watching videos etc in landscape.

I then got the 17 Pro which is also a great device! But like you, I found it too bulky and at over 200g too hefty for prolonged comfortable use, especially if you have problems like me with the nerves in hands and wrists.

The Air really left a lasting impression on me for wanting a lighter phone… so I tried the base iPhone 17.

Although it can’t match the Air’s insanely good in hand feel, the 17 is much closer to the Air in weight than the 17 Pro, and is much more comfortable to use in one hand for prolonged periods.

Now the base iPhone has 120hz promotion tech and super thin bezels (couldn’t go back to 60hz) plus the 48mp ultrawide camera & macro, stereo speakers and the battery life is between the Air and the Pro.

I’ll be watching closely what the Air 2 brings and if Apple can get round the compromises I’ve mentioned, then I’ll definitely be back!

Enjoy your Air when you get it! 🤩

Agreed, there is definitely some compromises to be made. Amazon have a 30 day returns policy so I have some time to play with the Air. I have heard, it's even more difficult to return to bulkier phones once you've used this device! Glad you are getting on with the 17. Again, might be what I do, depending on how I get on.

You’ll definitely love the feel of the Air in hand! It’s simply incredible and you have to hold it to really appreciate it.

If it’s right FOR YOU, I don’t know…I can say that I’m still really satisfied of my upgrade from 14PM to my light gold Air 😎

Look, an Air in the wild 😆

Zollotech - iPhone Air - The First 100 days! 10 Things I Noticed:

Problem with this guy is he has FOMO, he prefers the Air over the Pro but because he's a "tech YouTuber" he feels he HAS to us the Pro.

He posts about it all the time on twitter how much nicer it is etc, its funny how much these YouTubers try to convince themselves the Pro is better for them even though they hate it.

Just goes to show you a lot of the tubers don’t walk the walk because they care more about click revenue.

The camera is what's holding me back from jumping on the Air bandwagon. I don't NEED a better camera, but even more I don't want to be limited in case I change my photography habits. I'm perfectly happy with my 16 Pro Max so if I'm going to break my pattern of upgrading every 2-3 models it had better be ideal. The next iteration of the iPhone Air will almost certainly address the camera shortfalls and that's the model I may jump on.

I still love my Air and never, ever think about my 16 Pro. When I hold someone else’s Pro it feels very uncomfortable to me now.

Very pleased I made the switch. Also have no battery issues at all, on days I’m in the office it’s off charge at 5.50am and it’s unusual if I don’t have at least 20% left by bedtime at 10-11pm.

Meanwhile I’ve had a few people just since Christmas say how thin it is and ask what it is, if it’s good etc.

Greetings from a fellow Air owner and longtime lurker 🙂
My own 2c, for what they're worth:

Regional store offered it to me brand new, 520 euro cheaper than the 17 Pro.
520 euro cheaper with the 4yr extended warranty included mind, so, yeah, bought it.

First two days, battery life (as in real life, actual usage) worried me greatly.. no way this thing would last me the day. First day in, it barely lasted me half the day and i'm being literal.
After a) updates, app installations, et al. were over with, b) i sorted it out to function as a normal cell phone and c) disabled Siri? Entirely?
I couldn't care about the battery life, am more than good. Barely at 60% when i'm back home 🙂

So, point one:

+ Battery issues greatly exaggerated. For its intended audience*

Moving on, if one were reading posts here, one would have thought its rear camera is useless, horrible, etc etc (we even have this guy stating he cannot do his eBay ads anymore, the zoom isn't enough..?).
At 2x zoom i can take a document picture standing, at a distance, with artificial ceiling light only, evening at home typical scenario; and be able to read it clearly from my macbook's monitor when AirDropped. So.
Leading us to point two:

+ For normal usage and/or people, the rear camera is very good, more would have been wasted.

If you "aspire" to photography on the cheap and/or do "social", this isn't for you, sure. But then again, you knew that getting in, not for you, so why complain; honestly.
More importantly, why type and type only so as to wrongfully convince others the camera is insufficient? It's not.

+ Even though a slim difference, it is lighter, it is thinner, you do feel that.

Working with it, your 16 Pro now feels chunky.

+ Apple's own modem.

Not enough people focus on this one. And they should.
i) Qualcomm and Mediatek's modems? They "phone home". Does Apple have 100% control over this? Where and what they "phone" back in? No one knows.
We all know, exactly, where Apple's modem does. Not in China. Not in data farms.
ii) Capabilities? I'm bypassing my cellular provider's resolution service, use my own DNS even when Wi-Fi is disabled. Zero DNS leak, after extended testing. My provider has no control over where i go, what website i visit, even when i need rely solely on them (5G only). All from a simple mobileconfig file that i made myself. My 16 Pro cannot do that, i tried. It lacks Apple's modem 🙂
Huge thing this one. They don't control me, i might as well be at home on my Mac with my sophisticated router, in as far as "internet" experience/functions may be concerned.
Leading us also to privacy; privacy, without sacrificing performance, battery life, or suffering a financial penalty (purchasing third party apps offering similar).

+ Contrary to what you'd expect (see: MacBook Air variants), you get the full compliments of the Pro motion display, ie those 1600 nits. With the relevant price hike, sure, but; SE Europe, broad daylight, sun's glaring, and you wouldn't know it looking at the screen.

* If you're after "Air" variants, you're after function, you want the basics; you need it to work, well and reliably; you do not expect gimmicks, extras, flashiness. Pure function. And something tells me a lot of the people complaining had only the price tag in mind (which is steep and unreasonable in comparison, i'd agree on that. But yet again, something tells me the comparison metrics others employ focus.. elsewhere).

The iPhone Air is as "air" as it gets.
I love mine.
I get exactly what i expected out of it.
M4 MacBook Air + iPhone Air happy owner, over and out 🙂

Had my first proper hands on with the iPhone Air yesterday. Adored it as much as I expected to. If I knew nothing about the differences between all the new models, and was just picking the one I like the most superficially, the Air would win out easily. I’ve had an 14 Pro Max for 3 years now that I use without a case 95% of the time, so the screen size of the Air hits a sweet spot for me. Though the 17 is so much better a value proposition at 6.3”, that little extra width and height of the 6.5” Air did make a difference for me personally. The second generation version of the Air is lock for a purchase. As much as I love the current version, I just cannot justify the $1100 cost after taxes Canadian with trade in. The temptation and pull to the dark side of the force is strong with this one, and I have fallen off the Pro bandwagon. None of the pro features that are missing matter to me, but the cost and value proposition today is just not there. If I used a case with my 14PM, I would have dumped it yesterday, but without a case in pocket all the time, it is second nature and less of a brick and will remain with me until 2027. No question in my mind that the Air will be the next iPhone I purchase, provided  sticks with it.
Also waiting for the 2nd get iPhone Air - unless the 17e has a better screen. 800 nits is too low.

After a week of thinking about trying the phone I pulled the lever and bought the phone. I’m two days into ownership. My “old” phone is a 17 Pro and I haven’t decided if I’m keeping or returning this phone but here are some quick thoughts:
I love how it feels in the hand. I used to have a 15 Pro Max and while I liked the big screen it was too big and bulky to be comfortable using it while walking. The air solves that problem by having a decent sized screen and being super thin and light which I love.
Battery life has been fine but I’m only 2 days in, yesterday I was using both phones so today is the first day of just the air. So far so good.
I did notice it get hot near the top while restoring from backup.

Congrats on finally getting rid of that old 17 pro, you’ve probably had that thing for so long and it was finally time for an upgrade 🤣🤣🤣

With less than 24 hours into using my new Air here are my initial thoughts coming from a 15 PM.
  • No disappointment in the design, feel, weight, or quality of the Cloud White, it is superb.
  • Single speaker is a non-issue for me.
  • Battery life should be OK, my 15 PM is still @ 100% and lasts 2-3 days between charges.
  • A single camera would be an issue but my wife will inherit the 15, so trip photos will not suffer.
  • Too slim and beautiful for a case but I did order a ROXX NEO screen protector and a lens cover.

can I check how is the Air holding up for long term users? does it heat up and trottle?
Five months user here. I've only felt the plateau warm to hot a few times, but I don't remember the conditions. It just hasn't been an issue for me. I also don't do any hardcore gaming or anything. The phone operates as it did day one. Still at 100% battery. I also enjoy it as much as I did day one (ie. the lightness and thinness), but that's not a surprise to me because I knew it was a good fit for me going into it. The only trade off I cared about was the telephoto lens, so I later got a high zoom compact travel camera just to bring to events and on trips, carried in my fanny pack. 30x zoom FTW 🙌

You know heat is normal right?
Even the 17 Pro will generate heat..

Anyway, for me I haven’t noticed any throttling or extreme heat issues.

Just warm at times but usually it’s cool.

Currently with 13 mini , but it started to lag and stuck more often, and heating during web surfing , camera usage and some basic stuff so I wonder between base 17 or Air. I wonder how it is regarding heating ? I read few reviews it is getting hotter but I doubted how they achieved this, so ..

I love the modem in the Air, it's so good in my area and surrounding countryside areas.

I can't wait for the 18 Pro/fold/Air 2 to show us what C2 can do.

Agree with all of this! Never had any battery issues.

I’d love to know more about the modem stuff you’ve mentioned
