Really sorry to hear this. Wouldn't mind so much if it was just speaker calls. I've been leaning heavily towards the Air as my use is likely the primary target group (email, minor web and social media browsing, basic games), but I do rely on my phone quite a bit for work calls and this might be the deal breaker. Hope to get some more opinions on this. Thanks for the quick reply.

I mean I can live with it. But it’s definitely substandard imo(coming from 15 Pro).

I think what you maybe don't realize is that millions of people have access to regular computers for anything serious they are doing and the iPhone is primarily a communications device. The Air is for those people.

Oh I know that, I'm one of them. Mobile gaming is pretty big and growing at a fast pace though, especially outside of the US. Apple knows that too. I know a lot of people on the Android side are certainly annoyed at how many exclusives they obtain.

I find the volume is enough but my 16P does seem somewhere between 10-20% louder. But speaker calls are usually pretty short and casual for me and I use AirPods pros for longer work related calls. I could see it making a difference in a noisy environment though.

This isn’t normal with screen off/idle. Something is draining your battery. What’s going on with the weather app? It shouldn’t be consuming that much, especially in the background.
With my old 15 PM I would be down only 3 or 4% overnight so this is alarming. I am going to try out the 26.1 Beta and if there is no change I am going to wipe and restore. I love the phone, but if the battery life is going to stress me or make me feel incommunicado or unsafe it will have to go back.

Complaints

• The screen is still too big but I'm giving it a genuine attempt.
• Would be better if the back were glossy to make it easier to hold.
• The point of balance is about 8mm north of center. It should have more weight on the bottom to offer more assurance while holding it.
• The speaker is sufficient, not great.
• The camera bump on top of the camera bump.
• iOS 26.

Positives

• The thinness feels appropriate. It's what all phones should be.
• From what I've seen from others, it seems like it's super durable and scratch resistant.

I feel like chiming in to tell you that the solution to your complaints seems rather obvious. Get the regular 17.

- Screen is slightly smaller.
- Get the Apple silicon case on the regular 17 and it’s going to be extra easy to hold, and the weight will only be a little higher than the Air.
- The speaker will be much better.
- Cameras will be nearly flush with the body of the phone with that case on.
- You’ll have no battery concerns whatsoever, even after the battery has aged in 2-3 years.

And with all of those improvements you will save $200.

I probably tested audio back and forth for over an hour between the Air and 16P and think it’s fine for casual content. The 16P speakers are absolutely better but the Air speakers are plenty loud and clear enough for things like podcasts and social media videos. You can really notice the lack of base and depth in music but I personally don’t listen to music through my speakers in the first place.
Im kind of hesitant to take "audio testing" seriously from someone who doesn't seem to know the difference between "base" and "bass" ;)

I would definitely not play music through an iPhones speakers for any prolonged period of time too though!

You must have missed the part where I said I'm coming from an iPhone 16 and an iPad and looking to combine their usage into one device.

Also, I don’t use cases.

3-4% overnight should definitely be expected. Have you checked the weather app? It's obviously a culprit. It shouldn't be draining 19% with 1 min of screen time. Seems like it's could be pulling your location continuously or something. In comparison my safari usage today for example is only 15% with a 1 hour and 20 min screen time.

Lol, I'm going to blame autocorrect here 😅

Im glad you took my post in the spirt it was intended :)

Sorry just a pet peeve of mine, I actually agree with most of what you wrote!

The irony is with AC off, I tend to type like completely garbage on my phone. It didn't seem that way in the early days. I guess it's just muscle memory now to tap away carelessly and let AC fix all my mistakes.

Leaning towards keeping the Air now.

Had my 16P in London for work today. Active screen time is 1h 45, and battery is down to 22%. Hardly used the phone as was in a meeting all day and connected to WiFi.

This battery is at 94% health, and I don’t find it overly impressive at all. I don’t think the Air battery would be worse, the speaker is absolutely fine, the camera is the only real trade off for me and the superior experience of actually using the phone is probably more important than the handful of photos I’d miss out on.

3 days in, so far I love my Air. I dunno what any of the complaints are about, and the Sky Blue is perfect for me. all the colors are nice, and I liked my previous white 13 Pro, but the barely blue I really love it.
I also upgraded from my 15 Pro to a sky blue air and I love the device and have been using it as my daily driver since last Friday, glad I made the upgrade. I am debating getting extended apple care plan being it's so thin and thinking long term for this one.

Same. Thinking AC+ and a MagSafe grip for the back instead of a case

It’s funny when you watch a review on YouTube and they’re like “it doesn’t do LOG video and the USB exporting speeds are slower”.

Bruh, do you realize what percentage of your audience would ever use those things? Like everyone watching is also a YouTube creator. lol
I think quite many, I want those features to shoot photos and videos occasionally. And that’s mono speaker. I just can’t justify purchase. My XS MAX still works prefecly, runs battery as Air or even better, have stereo speakers. But I want to upgrade, and now can’t decide. 6.3 too small from XS MAX 6.5, 6.9 too big. But Air, after 7 years feels like downgrade when you consider to switch from XS MAX. Stainless steel still no signs of wear. It won’t wobble on table as Air do. Jonny make a masterpiece.

It’s ridiculous, that Apple can’t beat itself in past.

I don't think it's a downgrade. Didn't the XS Max have only a 2x telephoto? The cameras on the Air are likely better in every way. Battery capacity is the same but I wouldn't be surprised if the Air is also noticeably more efficient.

The XS Max weighs 43 g/1.5 oz. more than the Air, even more with a case. For anyone considering the Air, if weight and thinness isn't a major factor for your choice, you probably shouldn't even look at the Air.

Personally speaking, I think you're going to be shocked at how much better any modern iPhone is over the XS Max. And I am saying this as someone who loved their XS Max. A lot has changed in six years.

Lol the Air will not be a downgrade from the ancient XS Max. The battery life will be better and the single speaker will be louder I’m sure, my other half thinks my Air sounds better than their 14 Plus.

The cameras will be a huge upgrade in every aspect from photography to video. Performance will destroy it, A12 - A19 Pro with 3x the RAM.

The Air would be an incredible leap in tech I’m sure from the XS Max.

yes, but it’s minor changes for all that years. The only selling point is a custom made wireless modems.

Sounds like you haven’t actually tried the Air. It’s absolutely better than the XS in every department and the speaker quality is absolutely fine.

As for log etc, you may need them but I’d bet good money that the majority of users don’t. I’ve never used it, nor do I know anyone who has used it, most people use their phone cameras in a point and shoot fashion with whatever the default settings are.
