I wonder how scratch-resistant it will be. Being this thin, you’d think everyone would like to use it without a case. Because adding a case or bumper mitigates the thinness of the phone and thus the whole point of the design.

Woah I didn’t even realize it had only 1 speaker. No stereo speakers is a no-go for me. That is a huge step backward. I would have preferred no USB port and a second speaker instead of this setup.
I wouldn’t be surprised if:

This is half of the iPhone fold and therefore the other half will have the other speaker.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next version of this loses usb to make room for that extra speaker.

The watch has existed for 10 years with just the charging puck hasn’t it.

Good video. Looks premium. Will go to a store after the release to try it out. The polished titanium frame is so nice. Apple should have had it for the 15 Pro and 16 Pro. Think the foldable will also have a shining titanium frame.

I have to admit, I'm mostly impressed by the design of the iPhone Air. I think it looks really good. However, we Europeans are getting screwed again with that €1229 price tag, especially considering the euro is stronger than the dollar. I’ll need to see it in the Apple Store first before placing my order.
Even more so for the ProMaxes

I have the 14 Pro Max (simply for the screen size and the then new Dynamic Island which IIRC was Pro Only). And now the 17 PM is EUR 1500 - this is wild. Since the differences (except camera) are minor for my needs, I will probably look at the Air, as it feels the most "new".

a thinner, lighter phone, with one rear camera
costs more than the base 17 model
yet you get less

pay more for less - I guess thats the air angle.

design wise, probably this will be the template for phone design going forward from apple, but its hardly awe inspiring.

You know that EU countries should be partly blamed for the incredibly high sales taxes... up to 25-27%, really? Plus, comparing US net prices to EU gross prices is pretty pointless.

Look I think it's cool.. I guess I don't understand the tiering of the phones. Is this just to appeal to those that want form factor? I guess what I am saying is, why not get the pro.. do we need an air phone? Does it really fill in some gap that was in the lineup previously? Obviously its not for me - it's pretty though.. I'll give it that.
Thinner and lighter. This is the grail for some people.

Can we do a deep dive into "optical quality zoom". Having a 1x at 48mp and 2x at 12mp doesnt say anything other than digital zoom / cropping to me. If thats the case can Macrumours please drop Apples tech wash and just call it the digital zoom / it's just one camera / "fusion" doesnt usually mean good in the world of apple.
By the way, I love the look of the phone, too many compormises in various areas for me, so i'll be going pro (with its 4x, not 8x tele camera). Its just it leaves a bad taste when something just cant be called for what it is. The air has one camera/lens, manual crop or auto crop, thats all its doing for what i can see.

The title of this is a little odd to me. Everything apple does, even going back to the iPhone 5C and before, feels premium. They are known for producing products that feel expensive. So proclaiming that the Air is premium seems obvious.
‘Premium’ is simply a word used by marketers to make what ever it is sound more expensive and higher quality than it is to increase apparent value. Premium is just buzzword bingo that means ‘feels expensive’ but the connotation is in the word expensive as often expensive things feel premium.

So this is just lazy writing . What is it —exactly—, that makes it ‘premium’?

Well this boat has well and truly sailed, not least the (intentional?) blurring of the lines as what a ‘zoom’ actually is and what is being talked about when ‘zoom’ is said vis a vis iPhones because i dont think ANY iphone has ever had a zoom.

I really like the thinner design, its only 20grams less than my iPhone 15 Pro though. And its 6.1 inches and I'm a smaller phone type of guy (I came from the 13 mini).

I'd love to get it some day down the line, but not having the macro camera in my job (we take a lot of pics of serials and electronic compoenents) I don't know if I can live without it.

For me, that’s too much compromise from the Pro, for too high a price. Like an updated iPhone X.

Cynically, it feels like a sneaky way to increase margins.

The Air (5.6 mm) is thinner than iPod Touch 7 (6.1 mm) 4", which was a delight to hold in the hand.

When it was time to replace the 6s 4.7", thought the mini 13 5.4" would be the one, but chose the 13 6.1". Now, it will be between the 17 6.3" & the Air 6.5".

Yeah the reviews are going to be key to work out what's going on here.

My 16e has a fusion camera - and you do not want to use the 'zoom' i.e. cropped image, as there's a discernible lack of quality in nearly every shot that you take with it.

I fully expect next year’s air to have two cameras like the s25 edge.

But for the moment, the air is like the iPhone X:

it’s here right now for those who want to use the future regular iPhone.

And it’s likely one half of an iPhone ‘fold’
That was my thought right away, it's the iPhone X all over again. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the only model I could get. The pro & Pro max look ugly now compared to the Air.
And yes it is likely going to be 2 of these airs that make the fold.

Polished sides are more grippy. It makes it safer to hold it.
i suppose. Some of the hands on photos I saw it looked pretty smudged and even what looked like scratch marks. Hopefully it doesn’t scratch easily.

They talked a lot about the A19 Pro needed special cooling in the Pro, so why is it not needed in the Air? Will there be heat issues?
