I got my iPhone Air Cloud White on Fri morning (in-store pickup), coming from a 15PM (and 13 Pro, 12 Pro and X before that). Absolutely love it so far - it fit my use case perfectly, as someone where 95% of my photos were 1x/2x main lens, I use my AirPods Pro for basically all listening (or via Sonos at home), and I wasn't a power user so felt I could easily deal with the lower battery life.

The screen is beautiful - I think the 6.5" is the goldilocks size for me. The 15 PM (my first plus-sized phone) was just a little too big (eg. one-handed typing was doable but difficult). And having 120hz Promotion was a must (without it, would've been a dealbreaker).

Re: battery life - I've felt it absolutely punches above its weight on what my expectations were. Over the last 6 days (Fri, Sat-Sun weekend, and then Mon - Tues work-week), I've basically started the morning with 100% and finished at night with ~40-50%.

So right now, it's absolutely more than enough for my needs. Additionally for me, at the stage of life (in my 40s, with adolescent kids), I'm trying to be more present in daily life and use my phone less. I don't enable always-on display (I didn't on my 15 PM either) given the same energy - I want to use my phone if/when I want, but be more intentional about using it less. Even more so, feel like the Air was the ideal phone for me.

Congrats on seeing the need to be "more in the moment." I would like to see more people embrace that kind of mentality.

I don’t need to “google” that stuff. I can just consult Apple’s in-store offerings:
  • The iPhone Air is the only iPhone that Apple (the phone’s manufacturer) sells a first-party battery pack for.
  • And that battery pack lists only the iPhone Air as being compatible.
And yes, I know that there may be third-party battery packs. Apple could have well left it to third parties providing battery packs for the Air. But they for some reason didn’t - they felt to do their own.

So my point still stands: it looks a bit awkward. As if the manufacturer doesn’t quite trust its battery life is competitive.

I didn't get that impression. I've got the Air and I'm really not feeling any difference to my 15PM. It's a total non-issue.

Knowing that, the idea seems to be if you don't need thick phone battery 95% of the time, don't carry a thick phone 95% of the time. For that 5%, slap the battery on.

People claiming that the fact Apple is selling the battery just for the Air is some kind of gotcha seem a little funny to me.

Right ?

I have not missed a single feature on the Air coming from a 16 Pro.

Battery has been all day and then some for my use.
Remaining charge is always over 50% by the end of the evening which means I can go 2 days without charging.

That's amazing improvement in battery management tech compared to the same exact use with my 16Pro which would be lucky to get 40% at the end of the day.

Photo I rarely use - still haven't taken photos after almost a week !

Speaker - only for voice calls, FaceTime, and game app sounds...

So I swapped my Pro Max out for an air and set it up this morning and I really like it so far.
Interestingly, I popped out for breakfast and the guy that served me in the café asked where my new pro Max was as he also had a Pro Max 17. I told him that I exchanged it for an air and he asked if he could look at it and after holding it and playing with it for five minutes, he decided he’s going to send his Pro Max back and go for an air instead.

Yes, that's what is happening with me as well - working in the tech field, I get a lot of questions about the Air.

When people handle it, they are hooked.

Most people are programmed to believe the pro is the way to go. I think if more people actually tested the air they would switch. The so called compromises of the air aren’t really a deal breaker for the average pro user.

Personally I think from what I’ve seen of them in real life and from reviews etc. The two cheaper iPhones are better bets than the Pro models this year.

100% agree as I am not a Pro user.

Just a boomer gen user with very limited needs so the Air / Base are perfect.

Plus I don't miss the heavy brick weight of my 16 Pro that is going back to Apple today...

So less than 1.5 once difference is now a brick. I get the pro is bigger but can we be for real here. All of a sudden the Pro phones are just hideously big.

100%. Once people are more aware of the new lineup, you will see a swift in sales. It might not happen this year but it will eventually.

I returned my battery because I don’t need it and it would just be collecting dust :)

Why are Pro/ProMax users so threatened by this phone's existence? They go out of their way to try to bash the Air, trying desperately to get people to not buy an Air, its so obvious. Its verging on comical to me to see the mental meltdown of the Pro users, its like a train wreck you can't look away from lol. I primarily only go on this site and Reddit and it happens on both.

I don’t know why the pro users seem to have an issue with the air. It wouldn’t surprise me if at least 50% of pro users didn’t actually need a lot of the functionality of the pro phones. I certainly didn’t. Unless people are using their phones all day long or are keen photographers, what other no reason is there for needing a pro?

The same reason the Air people are calling the Pros Bricks, hideous, ugly, and cheap. Have you looked at many of the forums on here. There is way more hate for the Pros than the Airs.

1.5 ounces makes a huge difference on a phone, especially as you age and/or if you don't have very big hands (if you are only in your 40's I envy your youth but trust me you are in for a rude awakening physically in the next 10ish years).

What do you mean by "All of a sudden the Pro phones are just hideously big"....many people have been saying and complaining for years that the Pro models are bricks, this isn't anything new.

It's a huge difference mate. It comes down to perspective.

iPhone Air - 165 grams
iPhone 17 Pro Max - 233 grams

17 Pro Max weighs over 40% more

There’s no way to gauge popularity on whether it’s sold out, Apple may have a far higher inventory of the Air in anticipation of demand.

I bought an Air today. I like it a lot but haven’t transferred my number yet (it’ll kill my physical sim) as I want to give it a full week and see how good it is and if it gets warm, etc.
Better to install pension on air and kill your physical sim on old phone so you can properly test it under network conditions which will test battery better than without phone use

My comment was regarding Air to Pro not Max. It’s obviously if you want the Max you’re not worried about size as much.

Air :165
Pro:206

1.45 ounces.

Or even the 17 which is even less of a difference at 177
