What about instead of the Air we had an Ultra instead with same cameras as the Pros, maybe battery between the Pro and Pro Max, 7.0 inch screen but and still super thin but priced $100 more that the base Pro Max, do you think it would have sold better.
Don’t even need to go that far. Simply not lose the ultrawide lens, and also the dual speaker, which have been on the basic iPhone since like, 11?

What you call mediocre is almost on par with what was Apple's best just a couple of years ago. How soon we forget.

Exactly, I’m scratching my head at these battery complaints. It’s supposed to be exactly the same as the 16 Pro, which has served me well for a year.

It really seems that there are people making a lot of assumptions on the basis of it being thin. Even though lots of users on this forum are buying it after ditching pros…

Don’t forget its single speaker and a mid-range battery, both might be quite important for some people.
The only people who can complain about the battery are Pro Max users. The 27 hours is exactly the same as the IPhone 16 Pro.

I’ve tested the speaker and it’s fine. It’s noticable that it’s one sided at the start then it isn’t. I started a Netflix show on it in landscape and within a minute I’d completely forgotten it was mono speaker.

I think the Issue is a lot of potential buyers are coming from a Pro Max so even if it’s on par with the Pro it still may not feel like enough.

Pro Max is the absolute top of the line. Anyone who thinks the biggest and heaviest phone won’t have the best battery life by far needs their head examined.
But I don’t see a legitimate criticism of the battery, nor why it’s being spoken about like a gospel truth that it’s mediocre.

I picked up a free Motorola 2024 Moto X phone which is similar to the iPhone Air. I find that Android is easier to use and more customizable than iPhoneOS. Disabling all those fades and animations saves battery life and makes Android faster.

Traded in a 15PM and will probably will never go back to what's become a brick to me after using the Air.

The speaker and camera issues are non issues for me. I'm also seldom away from an electrical socket.

Apple saw a market for a device like this and time will tell how many people feel the same as I do.

I bought an Air outright, to test for a week or so.

It’s been pretty great so far. The Air would replace my 16 Pro as my daily driver.

I’m not missing the wide angle camera … yet. Jury is still out on that. I use the wide angle a fair amount on the 16 Pro.

One surprise is how much better it is to type on it. I’m back to my iPhone 4/4S days 😁

I don’t think people are too fussed about dual vs. single speakers.
Though the may well notice the difference between better vs. sounding.

But the single back lens makes it look visibly inferior to the (cheaper) iPhone 17.
I guess I don’t mean dual speaker is a must, but it is so basic that people expect to have it. It is not as expensive and difficult implement than say the tele lens. Apple just chose to leave it out to shave the weight / thickness further. And for some very light user, watch videos and expecting stereo audio is like… the absolute base line. They will ask, “well I don’t really need it, but why it is not there?”

Are you using a case or anything?

Exactly. It’s like we get so obsessed about specs we stop putting them into context.
Right? I get that there are people who frequently travel for their jobs or are content creators who utilize beyond the single camera and larger battery the iPhone Air offers, and they should avoid devices that compromise on that. I really don’t understand the point of these negative comparisons for this release. I think Apple went ahead and offered people different choices catered to what they’re looking for. Personally, and it’s probably nostalgia, but looking at and holding the iPhone Air feels like the iPhones of old, just refined. Maybe it won’t be as popular as the beefed-up Pro Max, but I appreciate that it’s an option.

Yeah it’s like the expectation is that every phone should match the Max, or it’s deemed base level. Doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve gone from Pro Maxes to the 16 Pro, now to the Air. The only compromise I’m aware of is the camera, and I do make some amateur content. The bigger creators are using multi-device setups anyway.

3 days ago 27 hours was second best in the lineup and now it’s insufficient.

What’s the reason it isn’t for you? I only got mine today so mostly been setting up but so far I’ve been impressed.

First, let me say that I am a very particular iPhone buyer so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I. Screen size: I know that the air is 6.5 and the promax is 6.9 but just knowing that there’s a phone out there with a bigger screen would annoy me every time I looked at my phone

2. Battery: I know many people on here are saying that the air and the pro are similar when it comes to battery, but for someone coming from a promax, my battery life would be sacrificed. I have lived with battery anxiety before and I wouldn’t want to go back.

3. Design: I know many people believe the air is the best looking of the pair but for me, I appreciate the design of the pros. Like my Apple Watch Ultra, I much more like the industrial design.

But again, I may not have to same concerns. Pick the phone that serves you best.

And no case lol.

I’m comfortable running phones naked. Peak case was the Apple leather one for the iPhone X/XS anyway ….

I have the Moft Tripod stand that I sometimes MagSafe onto the back. It’s thick enough when folded so it gives enough height to keep the lens off the surface.

I also have the Moft Wallet Stand. That one is thinner so the lens does touch the surface it’s laying on.

Thanks for elaborating - those are all good reasons and they make any other phone not for you. When I left the PM I was most apprehensive about the smaller battery in the regular pro, it was definitely a downgrade but has for the most part not been an issue for me which is why I’ve been happy to assume the Air will meet my needs too.
