While the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is not compatible with any other iPhone models, the USB-C port on the battery pack can charge some smaller accessories.

As noted by 9to5Mac's Zac Hall, the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery product page has this line:
Charge smaller accessories via USB-C
Apple says the USB-C port on iPhones can charge an AirPods case, Apple Watch, or another small device that supports USB Power Delivery at up to 4.5W, and the USB-C port on the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery likely behaves the same way.

So long as the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery has a sufficient charge, connecting a USB-C cable from the battery pack to the small accessory will initiate charging of the accessory — it could even be something like a small USB-powered fan.

Apple's original MagSafe Battery Pack with a Lightning port could not charge small accessories like an AirPods case or an Apple Watch in this manner.

You can order the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery now, with U.S. pricing set at $99.

Does Apple specify whether or not this can be done in conjunction to charging the iPhone simultaneously? Or does charging (of either AirPods or Apple Watch) have to be done while the battery pack is disconnected from the phone?

So I get the MagSafe battery pack can’t charge the iPhone 17 pro because of the shape of the camera plateau, but why wouldn’t you be able to wirelessly charge AirPods on it? I mean if it was possible, they would put that in the description surely.

I'm betting you can, but they were perhaps imagining a scenario where the battery was attached to the iPhone when you wanted to charge your AirPods.

It might not necessarily be Qi compliant, so it might be its own technical standard that won't charge anything except the Air (wirelessly).

Ah, fair point. That reminds me, there was a rumor that the 17 Pro was going to be able to reverse wireless charge AirPods and Apple Watch a couple weeks ago. It’s disappointing that rumor didn’t turn out to be true.

Non-issue. The phone itself can do this too (unless there was a function regression with the Air).
But doesn't this battery only really exist to supplement the smaller batter of the Air. Doesn't sound like you'd want to use the Air to charge another device if you had any other option.

I got hyped for nothing LOL, i forgot it was the air and not other 17 modelsView attachment 2546809
Disappointed that they're not releasing a new one for the other models. I have the original and still use it all the time. The fact that it can charge with reverse wireless charging is perfect for travel because you only have to bring your phone plug.

I still don't understand why that didn't happen with the iPhone 12 models and above. They can all reverse charge the original MagSafe battery pack, albeit at only 5W or 7.5W (can't remember the exact limit). But the hardware to reverse charge at least 5W is there, so why not allow it to be used for AirPods cases and/or Apple Watch?
