Notably, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman responded to these reports shortly after they were published, claiming his sources indicated that the iPhone Air 2 was not in fact delayed, because it had never been earmarked for 2026 in the first place.
Just like the HomePod with a screen was never delayed because it only exists in Gurman's mind.

Is this really a thing? Aren’t people who buy premium phones like this going to be using airpod pros (or max, or other wireless headphones with decent sound quality) instead?

I can’t remember the last time i gave 2/5th of a crap about the speakers on my iphone.

It all depends on how you use your iPhone. If you can or want to be in your own bubble, then any form of AirPods or earphones is the way to go. Yet if you need to also be aware of what’s going on around you, you might want your small speakers on. There is also a group of people not liking to hold their phones to their ears while making their calls and just speaking out loud.

Those people need to die in a fire if they’re doing it in public.

I absolutely love my iPhone Air! It's like a convertible fun car. Impractical in every single way except so nice to hold and use.
A convertible fun car with less features a regular convertible car would have like 2 less camera lenses wheels and a less powerful A chip engine.

Your convertible fun car 😛

Maybe they’re hoping that the lack of the regular iPhone 18 will increase sales of the Air? It’s still weird if they don’t make any substantial change. Perhaps there’s some supply chain obligations they want to cover by that.
The new C2 modem and the 2nm chip should make the battery 🔋 much better in the iPhone Air 2. Battery 🪫 was the most complained about on the iPhone Air.

The iPhone Air is a nice phone for sure (Premium design and engineering), but too many compromises and too expensive. TBH even if they dropped the price to £799 to match the iPhone 17, most would still go for the iPhone 17.

Will be interesting to see what the minor refresh is (probably just chip update to A20 and maybe slightly larger battery?).

The only thing I personality miss on the Air is stereo speakers.

Having sound only coming from the left OR right side of a video makes it feel like you’re watching video on a broken device.

Kinda have to watch in portrait if I don’t have any AirPods around.

If they don’t lower the price. It will sell even worse than last year.

Hilariously, I was downvoted and harassed, because people couldn’t handle that I pointed out the sales were poor. In a previous news section. 😂 Very few people want a thin phone with worse features. Other phones are light enough for most people. It doesn’t really have a niche in Apple’s lineup. It’s very niche and the sales don’t support it. A marvel of innovation, tbs, but sold really badly.

That said, Apple has a lot of cash to burn. So they can lose money.

The only way it justifies a price premium over the base iPhone is if it offers the same specs or better in every category and is thinner and lighter.

Every apple product that has been sold at a pricing premium based on thin and light, but lower tech specs has sold poorly (1st gen MacBook air, MacBook retina, iPhone mini)

I believe, without a second camera (ultra wide), sales won’t improve very much.

All other compromises of the air can be mitigated, but you can’t work around the fact that you cannot photograph certain views if you don’t have enough room to take a step back.
Sadly, the argument 'the cheaper phone has the ultrawide' is something the Air can never get away from.

Some love the Air. I do. I have one and personally I feel its the best iPhone ive had and this is coming from someone who was a pro max buyer for the last few years.

I tired of the size and weight bulk and the air's form factor was great and every day I carry this thing in my pocket knowing that its thin and light AND its titanium shell is holding up very well is enough for me.

I understand that for some they want the ultrawide lens and thats great just get the standard or the pro. There is choice for a reason.

For me, Im a point and shoot picture taker and I dont miss any of the lenses on the Pro including the Ultrawide. The fact its not present on the Air doesnt bother me one bit and there are many out there who would see it the same way although admittedly its a showstopper for many others.

The other two 'downsides' are again for me complete non issues and I do feel they have been way overstated by some as being showstoppers when they arent. The battery life is more than capable and easily lasts a full day for me - its the same as last years 16 pro! The stereo speakers couldn't be less of a problem! I dont have any desire to play 'important' audio such as music or TV shows or Movies from my phone of any description - if I felt the need I would use my AirPods and the mono speaker in the Air sounds really good on its own and watching the odd YouTube clip or video you dont even notice its mono.

I will happily stick with future Airs and I hope they are popular enough to continue the line. I do agree with your first comment though, that IF they manage to squeeze in the Ultrawide then it will be a more popular proposition for some.

I really don’t understand people who say this.
1. It hasn’t been long that we’ve had more than one camera on our phones.
2. There’s panorama mode. Attached photo taken with iPhone air.

The iPhone Air is an excellent device. The 6.5-inch screen is great, and it’s impressively thin, light and durable.

However, the camera, speakers, and battery life are weak points. Apple could easily solve all of these by making the phone just 1 mm thicker and it would still feel slim
I believe that the iPhone Air is the future of the regular iPhone.

In a few years time I mean - just as the X became the iPhone 12, 3 years after it launched.

it's just that the first version of the IPA was too much of an MVP. And you can't fix hardware.

Seems to be a sign Apple is phoning it in for Air 2 by reusing most of the major parts from Air 1. It costs a lot for a redesign and if they think it’ll fail regardless, there’s no point on dumping resources in Air 2.

I love my iPhone Air. Every time I pick up my iPhone 16 Pro Max that my wife now has it is like picking up a brick. Battery life has been completely normal for me and my use. The only thing that I would like is the second camera. Also they should be able to find a way to have a second speaker. If they do the second camera I will stay with Air models

I found the iPhone air difficult to grip because it was too thin for the screen size.

Lack of second camera is ok, I never use the ultra-wide camera since it doesn't have autofocus.
