China Eastern Airlines just announced a 29 hour "non-stop" flight from Shanghai to Buenos Aires (it stops in Auckland for a refueling but passengers must remain onboard). Think of the poor souls who need to make it through another two hours without their iPhones!
It could be worse: think of the poor souls flying Coach in a 29-hour flight…

More than great for the Air - anyone complaining about its battery life, which is as good as the ordinary 17, must be insane.
I think the issue is where they are putting the Air in the lineup. Pricing it close to a Pro model with worse battery life (and cameras) than the base model really makes the value a hard sell for many people. Obviously, early adopters might buy it for the looks but I wonder what happens in 6 months when you just have normal people trying to upgrade their iPhone.

Wish he added the iPhone 16 Pro to this test so we can know if the air really does have the same battery life. Anyway battery looking much better than some of these YouTubers made it sound. In addition, the adaptive power starts working after 1 week so will be interesting to see the results again with that.
YouTubers announce their non-sense as clickbait.

As a person who has always bought the Pro line every single year, I am going to be going Air this year. I barely used the additional cameras and with Promotion and the battery life reports I am feeling very secure in my choice. I cant ***** take holding another brick of a phone for another year. Get me outta here.
I feel the exact same way, I don't want to deal with the weight of my 16 Pro anymore. My next phone will be under 6 ounces (either the Air or 17e coming in the spring).

Not everything is specs.

Looks, weight, thinness and the cool-factor also influence the price consumers are willing to pay. I am an example of this, as I appreciate having a phone that doesn't sag in the pockets and thus will gladly pay a premium for it.

Im sorry for my rude comment and for not taking this into consideration. I sincerely apologize. But seriously a 29 hour flight sounds like a nightmare i never want to experience

There are four Pro battery configurations, not two. Would be nice to see the full lineup.

Only a minority cares about those ugly cameras, and battery life impact is minimal, especially in normal usage. So the Air is the best option for most.

Because its good enough battery life while getting the huge benefit of much reduced weight.
My iPhone never has a low battery. It's always charging wirelessly while I drive and when in my office is on a MagSafe charger.
Even if I go into the wild, or to the beach or on a boat, I have a small Solar charger I could use to keep it charged.

The same test using the iPhone 16 Pro came in at 14h07.
The same test using the iPhone 15 Pro came in at 10h53.

iPhone Air at 12h is pretty good!

In real life I haven’t found anybody getting the Air. Lots of friends and coworkers getting the new Pro though, lots of them citing battery life and telescopic camera. Honestly, the only place I’m finding people buying the Air is here.

Nice!
So air has even better battery than iphone 15 (11 vs 12 hours). Should be good compared to even older models

I hear you, I know with myself I always have a way to charge my phone if needed regardless if I am at home, at work, or in the car.

And the base 17 is better than the current 16.

The whole "battery life" being an issue on the air just came from MKBHD calling it a "red flag" before even testing it. Also partially Apple's fault for the terrible "all-day battery" line right before announcing the battery pack giving it 40 hours. Just say "27 hours video playback, better than the iPhone 16 Pro from last year - and if you need more, get up to 40 hours with the iPhone Air Magsafe Battery."

But here is the reality - if you care about battery, buy the pro. They literally made it bigger and heavier to have more battery life.

An iPhone 16 Pro Max with 100% battery health lost 23% battery life (per Tom’s Guide) in a year via iOS updates. Apple’s planned obsolescence is now the reduction in battery life via software.

Idgaf about their shiny new battery test results. The Air’s battery will be trash in a year, just as Apple wants it to be.

It would be interesting to compare if you have similar test results for iPhones from 3-6 years ago. We have been seeing steady battery increases over the past few years, so I think the Air might actually have the same battery usage time as those phones, which everyone considered normal.
I am replacing my 12PM this year and was curious to see what Apple quoted as battery life on it when it was new. Tech specs said up to 12 hours of streaming video, which seems like nothing compared to all of these new phones. My 12PM at 76% battery capacity still lasts all day most days (around 30% charged by bedtime), so it will be interesting to see how much longer my new 17 pro will last.

In some markets, it seems the 17 is the big winner. That shouldn’t come as a surprise though. It got a huge upgrade over the 16, is only marginally heavier than the Air, has an additional camera, but cost much less than the Air.

Because its good enough battery life while getting the huge benefit of much reduced weight.
Not much lighter than the 17 but has worse battery life and costs significantly more.
