Why?

the think i hate about it is if the phone is turned off it doesnt work which i think is silly!

as i dont want my phone on throu the night

Why do you turn your phone off at night? Wouldn't you recharge it?

Slide the bar across the bottom just like you are unlocking the iPhone. Come on guys, this is basic stuff.

EDIT: let me add some detail. If you are using the iPhone and alarm goes off, hit the OK button next to the snooze button. If the alram goes off and you are not using the iPhone, you have the option to hit the snooze button and snooze alarm or slide the button across the bottom to shut alarm off until the next day or how ever you set it up.

have never noticed the alarm stopping when I slide the button in the morning! Like i said I am asleep....

I agree, i put my phone in airplane mode every night. Quick access if i need it, and no waves going through my brain at night :D:apple::apple::apple:

I use the switch to set the iPhone to silent. The alarm is still as loud as I want it to be (I'm a heavy sleeper, so I set it LOUD - I'm impressed with how loud it can be, actually), but the phone only vibrates if I get a call or text message. You can set the phone to not vibrate when in silent mode if you are a light sleeper. I do this instead of setting it to Airplane Mode so that if someone calls or text messages me while I'm sleeping, I can see that when I wake up. I can sleep without being interrupted by the phone, and I still never really miss anything.
