Apples biggest problem is that they can't ever live up to their own hype, and ultimately that will be their demise. Peoples expectations will spin so out of control, no matter what they end up delivering simply won't be good enough.

Not a single one of you can honestly say you were anxiously expecting a flipping iphone 4S that is basically the same phone with a few internal upgrades. It was a let down plain and simple.

Siri looks cute for about 5 minutes and then you probably will forget about it. Most of us don't like talking *at* our electronics. You look like an ******. Google has had voice commands for years. I can hit the search button and say "Send a text to Bob Jones; I'm going to be late to our meeting today" and Android will look up Bob Jones, create a text message populating his phone number/contact info in the field, transcribe my voice into the text box and prepare everything so all I have to do is hit send. I can count the number of times I've used it on one hand in a year and a half.

While Apple will continue to grow their market share at the expense of RIM and others, *nothing* is giong to slow down Android. They ripped Apple a new one (5.6 percent growth comparted to .7). Apple knows this so they are doing everything in their power to litigate away Android with lawsuit after lawsuit.

I had an original iPhone, 3G and 3Gs. I switched to Android when antenna gate broke out and I have never looked back. Is it as polished and stupid proof as iOS, no. But I am a power user and like the flexibility of choice in customizing my operating system. The Samsung Super AMOLED Plus displays are amazing too look at and the 4+ inch screens are absoltuely a better screen size. Apple knows it it - that's why their leaked prototype was a 4 inch screen.

To each his own - but Apple is going to be playing catchup with Google on the market share for a long time to come. On the tablet front, Apple completely rules and until Android has an OS that is integrated across all devices, that won't change any time soon.

You won't know how much Android sucks until you try it for yourself. :)

While there are many people that feel that way, I know just as many that are ready to come back to the iPhone 4S after owning an Android device.

I can honestly say that I am excited about this 4S and I have an iPhone 4 already. I love the 64GB capacity, that alone is the biggest reason I am upgrading beside the increase in ram and faster processor. I can't wait!

Can someone explain to me how Android hardware OEMs lose net market share (Samsung, LG, and Motorola combine to lose .7%), but Android market share increases by 5%?

Did I misunderstand something here? What hardware is Android making gains on?

Samsung, Moto etc. customers are converting from dumb phones to smart phones. Overall they are not gaining customers, just upgrading the same customers with more advanced technology.

Well, I can tell you that the Google install base will be going up thanks to me. :D

It's been fun with with my iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, but I think it's time for me to move on to something new. Android here I come. Doesn't anyone feel this way?

Check out this story from somebody who has already walked that path. The grass is not always greener.....

Interesting that Microsoft is still declining. From all the praise 7 gets, you'd think it would be climbing at least a little.

Well WM7 is good and fairly well liked by customers but makers of WM7 devices are generally having problems convincing cellular carriers to pick their phones and/or pushing their customers to purchase those phones.

Yes, Apple doesn't whore out their OS to every (junk) box-maker and their dog. Thank god for that.

Google can keep their market share crown. It's bought at the expense of everything that makes Apple gear the standard in interface and design.

There's a reason the iPhone is the #1-selling handset, among a vast ocean of Android devices.

Interesting that Microsoft is still declining. From all the praise 7 gets, you'd think it would be climbing at least a little.

Why do you think it isn't?

Think about it. The answers are all there. And no, it's not "it just needs more time."

well I'm right behind you - my 2 year 3GS contract just ended and I ordered a Tegra2 phone (AT&T)

Wow the writing is on the walls for the iphone.... Year over year growth stagnant BEFORE they have a press conference most of the world shrugged at (meanwhile number ones growing further away) .... Wow they really thought a bunch of features the average user doesn't want or need would help them maintain their leverage on the market ... Wow were they wrong.... EVERYONE I have talked to about it literally shrugged... Dumbasses at apple, remarkable how jobs leaves and BAM - the suck is back....

And sorry, but noise canceling is not to the point where Siri will be anything worthwhile to the average user NOT at home or in a closed room like an office (where typically there already exists many items to do the same thing as the new feature) ... Oy.

Yes, honestly I say I was anxiously expecting a flipping iPhone 4S. Apple will be adding two more iPhone 4s to their sales figure because of me and my wife. Just think in two years I will be able to run iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s. Tell me again how many 2 year old Android phones will be able to run the soon to be released Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS update?

90% on the Droid Bionic and I have had it unplugged since 7:45 this morning and have been using it all day. It's 1:40pm here now.

my galaxy s2 has 65% left and its been unplugged for over 36 hours. but all androids have crappy battery life :rolleyes:

That's the thing where Android is getting very much overrated: Fewer and fewer phones are not smart phones anymore. First the $400 phones changed to Android, then the $300 phones, then the $200 phones, then the $100 phones... In three years time, when I look for the cheapest phone I can find to hide in the glove compartment of my car for emergencies, it will be running Android. That's why the Android market share is going up.

Apple's market is not smart phones, it is high-end phones. In that market their share is growing. And in the market of _all_ phones their share is growing. Apple won't care when the $50 phones become Android phones and the Android share gets even bigger, because Apple sales are growing.

Ok, so am I to understand the Android market share increase includes the "feature phone" segment as well? I guess that makes more sense, although it seems a bit like comparing apples to oranges (no pun intended).

And I think it doesn't explain how 1% market share increase for Apple in the smartphone industry coincides with 1% market share increase for Apple across all phone segments.

And how can you explain the grow of marketshare of Samsung, almost all of their Android smartphones are high-end phones.
