Of course Tel**** is gonna get the iPhone. Sucks, i know, but was always gonna be that way,.
I don't think Telstra will go for it as the iPhone would compete and cannabalise their own product offerings:
Telstra had BigPond music; iPhone has iTunes Store
BigPond Music is in .wma format; iPhone/iPod music is in .mp3 format
Telstra has BigPond Movies; iPhone has iTunes Store
Telstra has 3G network, iPhone is not 3G (at the moment)
If you look at all the carriers who offer the service in other countries, its not usually the biggest or main carrier that has the iPhone contract (am I correct?)
Legal issues: the nature of the restricted iPhone plans ie: you can ONLY use this product on only THIS network sounds very close to "third line forcing", and according to Section 52 of the Trade Practices Act - is illegal.
Will Apple be required to sell unlocked iPhones by law??
And anyway, all I have said is moot as the potential price of any plans is going to be so exhorbitant that not many people are going to be able to afford it anyway. There's no such thing as "unlimited" in Australia; every byte of data, upload and download is counted and chargeable!!
On the other hand, wouldn't you want to be a fly on the wall and watch Telstra and Apple shirt-fronting each other as they try and screw each other over the iPhone deal. LOL
