How was he right? Its going to be there, but not for 3G users. 3GS will have the on/off switch in their settings.

Just like video recording isn't a 3.0 feature, battery percentage isn't a 3.0 feature.

They are both 3G S features. This isn't rocket science.

I had posted this before... I have it ... I think the reason is JB numeric indicator changes something and even in non JB phone it should the percentage .... I have noticed this in 2.2.1 also ...

Oh gosh. Point blank. You were WRONG. Next week, my 3GS will have an option for the battery percentage. ;)

And it is a 3.0 feature, its just hidden for 3G users. This isn't rocket science.

Since it's hidden, it's not a feature. I can't put this into simpler terms.

You're not going to go from 2.2.1 and not having the feature to 3.0 and having the feature. Thus, it's not a new feature in the update. It's a new feature in the 3G S. Thus, it's a 3G S feature, not a 3.0 feature.

Why wouldn't it be a feature though? Regardless its there. If I get a 3GS and downgrade to 2.2.1, is the battery percentage going to be there? No. I see what you're saying, but you're being an a$$...as usual.

The battery percentage is IN the 3.0 software, no matter if its hidden or not.

2.2.1 won't run on the 3G S. Just like how 1.1.4 won't run on the 3G. This is a moot point.

The battery percentage indicator has been "in" the iPhone OS since 1.0.0, but it has never been enabled until the 3G S.

It's a new 3G S feature, not a 3.0 feature. At no point in time will anyone ever upgrade to 3.0 and have that feature as a result.

This is DUMBtarded... what the HECK. How hard is that to implement. I think that this is totally not cool.

No switch Found...

SO I have the new 32gb 3GS and cant find the setting. No documentation on where it is located...

So I havet o say at THIS time, that it is NOT available on the 3GS either!!

I have a 3G but I don't have it on my 3.0. My buddy has the original iPhone and when he upgraded to 3.0, it showed in his. He never jailbroke either. Weird...

I’m on iPhone 2G, jailbroken, unlocked & activated using PwanageTool. I updated (as opposed to restore) from 2.2.1 to 3.0 as soon as the update became available. I did not lose either the unlock or the activation (lost JB as expected) but I also noticed that my phone showed a percentage to the left of the battery icon. Also, I had the option to turn ON/OFF the battery indicator in Settings->General->Usage.

When PwanageTool 3.0 was released, I restored using the Apple official update, then created a custom file with PwanageTool and restored from that file.

My percentage display has now disappeared as has the option to turn it ON/OFF in Settings->General->Usage.

I don't know if you guys know this already, but you can enable this on 2G's and 3G's that don't show the battery percentage slider very easily if you have jailbroken your iPhone/iTouch.

SSH into your iphone
Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/
Download the file M68AP.plist
Open the file using a text editor or a plist editor
Add a Boolean value under the capabilities dictionary
Boolean Key = gas-gauge-battery / Boolean Value = true
Save and upload the file to the same directory that it was originally in
Go onto the iPhone and respring
Now go to the application Settings -> General -> Usage and there will be a Battery Percentage toggle and you can use it to enable battery percentage next to battery icon in top-right corner.

(from funkyspacemonkey)

Works fine on my 2G iPhone that didn't show the slider before.

stay sharp
