Why wouldn't Apple simply make snap on covers in many different colors instead of a different model for each color? Nokia did this quite simply with a phone I had a long time ago. Considering the colored part looks to just be one single piece (the whole back), this should not be difficult and would increase resale value (you might like your purple iPhone but good luck selling it).
