i find it easier to use a cydia app called tonefx....

this allows you to replace ALL SOUNDS(calendar included) with any sound you want.

you can keep some stock,or custom or whatever you want.

For version 1.10 expected around 23 September:
- if muted, same vibration as now (we can't change the hardware)
- chosen sounds can be specified for each calendar. (in version 1.0 one sound for all)

I know that this isn't a selling spot, but the truth is that you really solved a big problem I had, since I bought my iPhone.
Thanks, finally I can use the calender for my daily needs without being afraid of missing any appointment nor forgetting something.
:)

Just what I need to make an iPhone possible...

Cal Alarm will let me go forward with an iPhone purchase.

But I'm also interested in this "tonefx" that Rockerdan mentioned. But I can't find it in the apps store... anyone know how to get it?

That 4 second long alarm alert

I too hate that weak-a** (lol) alarm on the iphone and replaced it with a loud-a** train alarm, but that was jarring and when I rejailbroke with a custom ios4.1 I lost the alarm sound.

Can you send me that 4 second alarm? ram0n1sandoval at gmail sends his

Thanks

hi thanks for the previous post, they were good clues but didn't work. your clues plus being fueled by almost missing an appt due to the weak-ass calendar notification (another iphone design flaw, not being able to change it) this was enough to get me driven.
here's what to do:
1) go into cyberduck/winscp and SSH to the root directory.
2) then go to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds
3) replace alarm.caf with any other file you have called alarm.caf
.caf means Core Audio file so you probably need to do this part on a Mac
I used Fusion to clip an mp3 file and save it as an aiff. then i opened the aiff with Apple Soundtrack Pro and saved it as a Core Audio file. The whole time I kept the save settings as 16-bit /44100 kHz /1411 kbps bit rate, just like the original. The only thing different about my file is the length and maybe the dB, but it worked.
4) reboot the phone, you must reboot for Core Audio to reload it's files!

if you'd like me to email you my alarm.caf send me a message
it is a 4-second clip of the intro to a metal song with distorted guitars and banging drums. hopefully i won't miss any more calendar reminders! LOL

Create your own alarm tone using itunes

Using the info in the previous posts and some further investigation / trial and error, I managed to create my own alarm tone and replace the old one using the following method:

Jailbreak iphone using GreenpoisOn or similar software

Using itunes select the music you wish to use

Go to: File, Get info

Choose: Options, then edit the Start and Stop time of the track to include the 15 seconds that you want (more than 15 seconds doesn't seem to work)

Select: OK

Go to: Advanced, Create AIFF version (AIFF Encoder must be selected in the Import Settings for itunes)

Another file with the same name will appear below the original in the music library

Select new file and Go to: File, Show in Finder

Go to: File, Get Info

Change the file name to alarm.caf

Now replace this file with the alarm.caf file in /System/Library/Audio/UISounds on the iphone (this can be done using cyberduck / iphone explorer etc)

Well done everyone who posted answers and thankyou.
Hopefully one day Apple will wake up to themselves and write some decent software which will allow greater usability for their products. My three year old N95 Nokia could play any audio file for the alarm tone (or any other tone for that matter) and it would repeat until I acknowledged the alarm. Symbian software was under rated. A calendar like that one would be great on my iphone.

Hi Robert

I am unfortunately not very IT savy... But i need the alarm desparately in the IPhone 4.

I am a financial analyst & was using a Black berry till now.. IPhone really sucks in comparison.

Can you please guide me, in a simpler language on how to change the tone of the calendar.

Thanks a ton,

Ullas

I rarely post, but if everyone was like me no one would benefit as I have by others posting.

I followed the instructions and it did not work until I matched the FREQUENCY of the .caf file, which is 44,100 hz. Please note that. What I did was take a Navy Klaxon wave file and increased the pitch and amplified it so I could hear it from two rooms away (using Audacity a free open source sound editor that allows you to set the project rate to 44,100, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).

Then I exported it as a .wav file, not mp3, because once you convert it to an .aif from mp3 using Quicktime, the file is twice the kb than a .wav file converted to .aif. I named the file alarm.aif and renamed it to alarm.caf.

Using the free and amazing SSH free iPhonebrowser http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/, I renamed the original alarm.caf; alarm1.caf. at /System/Library/Audio/UISounds and pasted my newly made klaxon called alarm.caf.

THEN I REBOOTED THE IPHONE, HOLDING BOTH KEYS DOWN UNTIL THE SCREEN WENT BLACK

It works very well and very loud and I am very happy. I don't think you need to jailbreak your phone to do this either. Just use iPhonebrowser.

I have uploaded the alarm.caf in a zip file to make it simple for anyone else. http://bohen.net/alarm.zip. Just drop it in /System/Library/Audio/UISounds via iPhonebrowser and reboot.

Thank you everyone for contributing and making my life more effecient.
