I just hope that Apple can bring the iPhone up to Windows 3.1 standards and make a properly functioning recurring alarm. Come on Apple, you can do it - just like Microsoft did 18 years ago.

Oh yea, MS is perfect. They did have the Zune leap year bug, and currently have at least one WP7 alarm bug, but at least the alarm goes off, kind of; links 1 2 3.

Still, how hard is it to write reliable alarm code. This is two alarm problems in two months for Apple. The first being a daylight saving time bug.

Setting the alarm doesn't work at all anymore for single time alarms I created today. I tried doing it for every Saturday and it works. So recurring is fine. So confirms the findings.

So many comments bitching at or defending Apple, but no curiosity about the the faulty algorithm.

I want to know what type of screw up they did. This was just piss poor programing that should of been caught in QA multiple times over. This is the 3rd rather large embarrassing thing for Apple on the iPhone in under 6 month.

Antenna design and handling, DST alarm issues, and now this one... All on the iPhone in under 6 months. Very sad.

You're comparing a minor clock issue on a multi-featured iOS device to Vista?? Oy vey.

2 clock issues with no heads up about them (apple did know about them), proximity sensor issue, antenna issues, wifi not working so well in mixed b/g environments...

Well...it's a typical arrogant reply:

[Update, 1/1/11 at 12:41 p.m. PT: Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison confirmed to Macworld that Apple is aware of the problem. "We're aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2," Harrison said. "Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3."]

Feast on that ye Apple haters.

So they're not even going to fix it? They just said put up with it. So much for 'it just works'.
Will someone with a dev account create a working alarm for us? It's a missed market opportunity!

does not change the fact that Apple screwed up yet again. Choose to not say anything until after the fact.

Yet another example of why Apple is not in the bussines world and never will be as well.

It's hilarious

The only thing people do around these forums is bitch bitch bitch! :p

That's why I refuse to use cell phone alarm clocks and stick to a regular, cheap, plain alarm clock that knows only hours and minutes, and has no clue as to what day or year it is.

What if the battery goes in the middle of the night ??

This alarm bug and the previous alarm bug are a major fail in my opinion.

While both bugs didn't affect me directly, they would had I not caught wind of them before needing my alarm for work.

Where people say you shouldn't rely on your iPhone as an alarm I ask, why not?

I got my iPhone to reduce the number of devices I needed to carry with me or in this case to reduce the number of electronic devices plugged in at my bedside so why shouldn't I rely on it as an alarm???

I am not a programmer but I find it very difficult to believe that programming an alarm is difficult... Someone dropped the ball on this one, and I'm sure heads will roll...

My faith in apple has been shaken in 2010 and I only hope 2011 holds a more reliable year for apple's products.

I was an hour late for work this morning, thank you Apple.

As others have said, given the whole day light savings time disaster earlier this year, you would have HOPED that a copy of their size would have gone over code and all proprietary apps that deal with date/time (calendar, etc).

Steve Jobs, amazing job yet again

What if the battery goes in the middle of the night ??

I had to reply to this, and there were a few other people who kind of mentioned this in previous pages.

If I go to bed with an almost dead battery, then that is MY FAULT. If the alarm does not go off due to some random bug that shouldn't exist, that is NOT MY FAULT. I know how much my battery drains at night, and my charging habits. If it's almost dead, I plug it in overnight to charge it.

I use my iPhone as my only alarm, and luckily I didn't have it set this morning, nor will I need it until after the 3rd, but this is RIDICULOUS. I am kind of worried about some other random bug though, that may make me late for something in the future.

haha imagine all the lawsuits apple will get from consumers who use the iphone! hahaha (they do have pretty weird ones out there)
lol!
sigh.. people nowadayss

Really? How many people need to set their alarm clocks for January 1?

And if it's that important that you have to get up to go to work, you should have a back-up alarm.

i agree with that. they can screw over the consumers a lot more than business customers. that is until enough people get fed up with the b.s. attitude from apple. be interesting to see when (if) that happens.

Perhaps a change in CEO will do something about the "b.s. attitude from apple" ....

lol...are you two actually being serious? you guys should march up to cupertino with your torches/plaques. Force that 'change'

Far worse bugs

Shameful isn't it? Some people here ought to listen to themselves. They act as if they're mistake proof and everybody and anything else around them better be perfect.

Oh and the media finally has something to generate hits for them. Funny how they are not even covering this "Major Bug from Android" which is even more embarrassing and can result in serious problems than missing your alarm.
