There is no way Boost would carry the current iPhone, independent of whether Apple would give it to them. As a wholly owned Sprint subsidiary, it would make no sense for them to be undercutting Sprint's pricing. That's why a launch of the 4S after the next model is released makes sense.

First AT&T then Verizon, then Sprint, then Cricket and now Boost?

I would like to know what the hell T-Mobile's problem is. Why is the iPhone still not offered?!?

Simple. AWS.

Cricket had to offer the iPhone only in its non AWS markets. T-mobile has no non AWS markets at present, although that will change.

This is truly incredible news for iPhone.

Our amazing growth story just continues to unfold with iPhone fulfilling the desires of consumers regardless of mobile provider.

More carriers the better for Apple and consumers.

AT&T/Verizon are going to have to re-think their duopoly pricing plans

Android makers have to be a bit worried since their phones have had a near exclusive reign in the pre-paid market

Sprint also has Virgin Mobile in the States. I've been on VM's case for a year to get an iPhone out here, since they have them in Australia and Canada already. VM changed their policy late last month to exclude customers like myself from staying grandfathered in we bought new hardware, so I was hoping that was the clue that iPhones were coming. I'd have happily taken the bump up to $35 a month to stay with them and have an iPhone. No such luck yet.

I'm a VM customer too and am also grandfathered in at $25. I agree that the change in policy is probably about the iPhone soon coming to VM. Sprint/VM wants customers and market share. There are a lot of people out there who want an iPhone, but are simply unwilling to pay $100 a month for the privilege. My usage is so low that it doesn't make sense. Maybe once every 3 months I use more than 300 minutes and my data and text usage is very low. There's no reason for Sprint/VM not to carry the iPhone.

I disagree. Boost and VM only work on Sprint's network, they don't roam on Verizon's so it comes at no real cost to Sprint to offer prepaid. Sprint really needs market share, and it doesn't matter if they end up getting it via prepaid plans. I'll bet many people who do end up upgrading go to the parent company of their prepaid plan. Why kill the goose?

ATT had a multi-year exclusivity agreement. Once that expired/was terminated it was in Apple's interest to get them to any carrier that could afford them. (Remember Apple sells them at full boat to cellcos).

I imagine what we'll see happen here is the main Cellcos will always get the newest model on launch day and the MVNOs will follow on a delayed basis -- 3 or 6 months later. Or some MVNOs may opt only to buy the previous models b/c they'll be less expensive.

For example, let's assume Boost does start with the iPhone 4 and iPhone S in Sept just as the iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called) launches. Boost would not carry the iPhone 5 for many months after its launch.

And I would assume that because of what you said, these iPhones will be sold at a much higher price because there is no contract, it would make no sense for the pre-paid carriers to subsidized if there's no user commitment to their service.

And by September there will be the older iPhone 4 and 4s, available at a lower price as the new iPhone would be the star of the show.

The only problem for me is that I wouldn't switch to Sprint. Their service and coverage are terrible in my area.

And I have been waiting for T-Mo to carry the iPhone for several years already, and I'm getting tired of waiting. Plus, their service seems to either be degrading or they are just not committing enough resources to 3G and I just need to upgrade to a 4G phone. I barely have coverage where I live, and I have not requested a Micro-Cell Unit to avoid committing to a 2-year contract, as I dont' know if I will stay with them or switch to an AT&T iPhone.

I read a while back that T-Mobile is waiting for the new iPhone, as it is supposed to be compatible with their 4G or whatever is called new service.
I know the feeling, I've been waiting for years, and hopefully this will be the last year of our wait.

Really? I have great coverage with them, but then I'm usually in big cities/suburbs rarely in rural areas so maybe thats the difference.

Since its the sprint network I always have nice clear service even in the hospital I work at where most people with AT&T have no bars.

But anyway - I'm really hoping this will happen. I've been with Boost for 2 years because I talk on the phone a lot and the unlimited minutes at an affordable rate is necessary for me. I've been hoping they would get an iphone - heck I'd even pay 500-600 for it. Still will save $$ in the long term over spending $100/month on a cell bill.

I live in Atlanta... a pretty big city.. and literally if i was in a building... call dropped in 15 mins almost guaranteed if im not literally sitting by a window

and if im not on a good part of town... spotty reception.. but the monthly unlimited price was really good..

BOOST CONFIRMS THE iPHONE September 2012 Release for Prepaid Unlimited with Shrinkage

While dealing with my customer service rep on another issue, I was asking about the new 4G HTC, and asking about waiting for a JELLYBEAN-class ANDROID (YES, people, I am an IBMer...and eat APPLES, I don't compute with them).

The rep said that there are several new phones coming this year; most notably if one holds off until late September, the iPhone 4S will be released for their UNLIMITED with SHRINKAGE plan to run alongside the ANDROID lineup.

APPLE has signed the license agreement with BOOST.

Then, in the background, another voice said (rather roughly), "You're not supposed to be telling people about that yet!"

He then got a little anxious, and we went back to correcting my bill.

So there is no doubt. The world is going down; that last bastion of freedom--BOOST MOBILE has been hit with a rotten, falling APPLE. (This is what a company does of ANY platform when it's a year-old, or prior-generation in hardware iteration...kick it down to the prepaid networks like the hand-me-downs to the younger siblings...)

In closing, remember:

"Friends don't let friends drive APPLES, they put them in a Cuisinart, and use the low setting for applesauce!"

;)
