I'm on a family plan and I'm iPhone upgrade eligible- can I go to AT&T and activate my new iPhone without having to take one of my parents- since I'm not adding a new line and I plan on paying for the phone myself anyway?

By buying the 3g you will be changing the contract since you're adding another 2 years. My guess would be that you would need one of your parents, or maybe just the last 4 digits of their ss#.

Yea, that is a different system, and since you are starting a new plan and all they will have to..

This is really starting to put a damper on things...my parents are hesitant to do the credit check on their names because they don't want it in their names...but I told them I would pay them back for the bill and even if I missed a payment or something the worst that would happen is a termination of service.

actually, the worst that could happen is you ruin their credit for them. If you're talking about missing payments before you've even got the phone I can kind of understand your parents' reticence...

Well, that's just the thing - I wouldn't be missing any payments because I've had a job all summer long and I already have a job lined up for when I go back to school...

If you're an authorized user on the account and over 18, yes.
If you're under 18, you can't do it without your parents present since you're signing a new contract.

so when I got my iphone, I had no credit... and they said I would have to pay 500 dollar deposit for a normal iphone plan... but you can also run iPhone as a Pay as you Go phone, thats what I did... and there isn't n activation fee to do it either.

gophone is only for the 1st generation iphone, I called gophone, and they will not be providing service for the 3g iphone...I don't know if that will change in the future...if anyone knows different let me know, I would rather do gophone!!
