How many think the initial plan will be a "teaser" rate to get people signed up and to balance the high phone cost, with higher charges for service in subsequent years?
As soon as AT&T gets their 3G up and running (well), Apple will implement 3G in the iPhone.
Where are you looking? They list two "SmartPhone Connect" data plans. $10 for a 5MB limit, $20 for unlimited.[EDIT] Whoa. Just rechecked the AT&T website. $44.99 for unlimited data?! What a joke.
Will I be able to add an attachment for that or something? Otherwise it wont help the iphone now.
Um, it's heeerre...
Wait, 56k? Like a 1999 telephone modem? Seriously?EDGE speeds for me where ok, 5 KBS (about 56k) It was useful because it works out in the middle of no where, which is great. But I was hoping it would support both EDGE and 3g

I stand corrected. Didn't see that one. Let's hope that's all that is necessary to use the iPhoneWhere are you looking? They list two "SmartPhone Connect" data plans. $10 for a 5MB limit, $20 for unlimited.
The 44.95 plan is for Blackberry phones..
I have a treo and the unlimited data plan for it is $39.99. I would imagine that the iPhone data plan will be one of those.. Chances are it will be the $39.99 one as the Blackberry one is more expensive because you are having to pay for the RIM service. I don't really see iPhone's data plan being $30 at all. everyone is getting all jacked out of shape for nothing.. The Wi-Fi will work no matter if you get the EDGE plan or not. People are going to buy this phone without phone plans/data plans because they want a widescreen video iPod with Wi-Fi Access. I wasn't a huge fan of this to begin with, but the more I read about it the more I realize that people are really going to scap these up and fast.

At first I doubted this logic, because the iPhone is a one-time purchase, and mobile providers live for those monthly fees.Given that ATT is actually going to make a profit off the phone (rather than have to subsidize it) I expect a MUCH better data rate.
People generally buy new phones either when the old one breaks, or when their contract expires (and they can therefore get a contract-renewal discount.) I don't know anyone who buys new phones at other times. But now I realize that phones are not one-time purchases. People upgrade phones as they do computers and iPods, replacing yesterday's model with the latest and greatest. Some people do this often, some wait years and years. But either way, there will be a revenue stream from the phone sales.
Ah, but iPhones are not just phones. People buy new iPods because of new features and greater capacity, so the iP(od)hone will give them that same temptation.People generally buy new phones either when the old one breaks, or when their contract expires (and they can therefore get a contract-renewal discount.) People buy new iPods because of potent reality distortion fields exuding from them
