Agreed, i came from a 1.1.4 1st gen iphone, the 2.02 3G iphone is very buggy in comparison. In fact, other than the apps crashing its gotten less stable (at least with dropped calls and reception) each 2.0x update. Here's looking forward to the septemer update!

Based on my experiences with apple, any of their X.0 releases always have a few glitches here an there but they always get fixed.

Compared to my experience with Windows CE and Mobile, the nice thing is that bugs actually do get fixed with Apple in a reasonable amount of time. There are still battery issues, major bugs, crashes etc. in my older WinMo devices that never got fixed and now never will. Some of these problems are still found in the current WinMo releases.

Also compared to even the current generation of WinMo phones, the iPhone is far superior.

Why are you comparing winphones to the iPhone? this is about Apple and the iPhone. I must admit i was impressed by the software until I upgraded to 2.0 (then 2.0.1>2.0.2). The delay in the contacts app is a disgrace.

I voted "disappointed" because I was a former owner of Iphone 2G and I didn't have any problems with that device. I was expecting the same or even better with the Iphone 3G because it is an upgrade anyways but it's too buggy. My phone hangs, freezes and crashes all the time and it can be extremely annoying. Also I drop calls like crazy. I would admit that it is still an amazing phone. But, I expected more from apple.

Because, this isn't the Jesus phone. It is software, early in its development cycle and Apple unlike its major competition actually fixes bugs and releases new s/w for their phones. And I think a little perspective is in order that it takes time to fix things and that Apple will fix and release new s/w when it is stable.

If you've ever bought a competitor phone you know that at most you will get one or two software updates. This means if there is a major security flaw, problem etc. in the phone you are stuck with it for 2 years until you buy a new one.

A good example of this is WinMo IMAP. For whatever reason, MS didn't release a functional IMAP cleint in WinMo 5 MS basically said they forgot to implement it properly. If you bought a WinMo 5 phone and wanted to use IMAP to sync your email you can't. Was there a software update to fix the problem that MS openly admitted the screwed up on? Nope, your only solution was to buy a new phone that could run WinMo 6.1 (not 6.0, since they didn't fix is properly there either) where they "fixed" the IMAP implementation. For WinMo phones this meant that on most carriers you had to wait about 2 years for 6.1 phones to be released and then extend you contract and pony up another $200 for a new phone.

There are many additional examples of known serious bugs in WinMo that will never be fixed in the affected devices.

Like I said, it is Apple, and their x.0 releases tend to be betas. But at some point very soon we will have a 2.1 release and many of these MINOR bugs will be fixed. The best part is we won't have to buy new phones after waiting for 2 years. Even better this software update will be free.

So I guess coming from a Win Mo phone where there is no hope of a fix, I'll put up with some minor key lagging, and a few minor issues here and there knowing these will be fixed before the end of the year.
