Fix for: iPhone doesn't ring or vibrate.

GOOD NEWS !!!
It happened to me when I was messing with call forwarding. I turned it on and off, I did not enter any number but some how it register the voice mail number. It's a bug in software. Solution: 1-Go to call forwarding, turn it on. 2- Enter a phone number and let some one call you. It will ring at the phone that you entered the number. 3- Go to call forwarding and turn it OFF. This will correct the problem.

has anyone found a solution yet?

this is so ridiculous, my phone never-ever rings and goes straight to voicemail. i am pretty sure that its crappy Apple and not ATT.

i have tried everything listed in this and other forums. i even installed insomnia on my phone, but that did not work either.

has anyone found a solution yet? please help as it is so annoying not to get calls or text messages on time.

this stupid gadget cannot even function properly as a regular cell-phone, the most basic functionality on this device! smart phone? my a$$

thank you

does not work

sick of it!

iphone won't send or receive calls, texts and voicemails periodically thru the day! the phone does not ring or give notices! i have noticed that when it's been quiet awhile, if i turn it off and back on again i suddenly have all the missed calls, text notices and voicemail notices from the past hours pop up all at once. very annoying! took it to apple and they gave me a new phone, still does it! i called at&t and they reset it, still does it. i've tried diff "fixes" from online forums and you guessed it, still does it. i hope everything switches to verizon and soon. i honestly think it's an at&t issue. the other iphone was fine and suddenly started doing this out of nowhere and the fact that the new one is doing right from the start? has to be an at&t thing. i seriously doubt i would get another broke iphone as a replacement that was doing the same exact screwup. something that may only be coincidental is, for me, all of this started around the time of the last carrier settings update.

Solution

Go into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This solved the problem on my iPhone 3GS.

this has been happening to me the last couple of weeks too. i've tried reseting network settings and that doesn't fix it.

I've tried the airplane mode, reboot, airplane mode off, reboot trick; the reset netwrok settings, the hard reset everything (i'm on a 2G, on O2, on 3.13).

The thing that fixed it was to turn network selection from automatic to O2-UK explicitly.

Seems to work now.

I also have the broken wifi problem. No fix for that yet (it's probs the overheating chip problem).

Same issue started happening a few days ago w/ my 2G. Its getting quite annoying.

try www.ifixyouri.com or call 561-881-0095

i cracked my phone and the speaker go loose or something and it wouldnt ring sometimes...they fixed it and it was a LOT cheaper than apple!

Try this

My friends phone was not ringing for any calls we were at a loss.

You all need to check the mute button located next to the volume button it will still vibrate but not ring. Its just above the volume and its silver really small but its there. Once we realized that the button was on mute we switched and low and behold the phone now rings woohoo!!!:D

Anyone know a fix for this yet? The phone recieves the calls 1/2 the time, and doesnt the rest.

iphone ringtone not working

It can be a puzzling situation: you’re getting voicemails and missing calls, but your iPhone doesn’t ring. It may seem mysterious, or like your iPhone is broken, but it’s probably not. The missing sound of your phone ringing probably is caused by mis-assigned ringtones (either that or your friends and family are mad at you. I can only help with the technology side the equation, though).

NOTE: Before reading any further, make sure that you haven’t just silenced your iPhone and forgotten to turn the ringer back on. Assuming that’s not the case, press on.

This situation is most often caused when you’ve had a custom ringtone on your phone and assigned it to contacts so that that ringtone plays when they call. If the ringtone gets deleted or corrupted, though, it can’t play and when a call comes in from someone who has that ringtone assigned to them, the iPhone doesn’t play anything. This also happens if you’ve made a custom ringtone your default tone and then deleted it.

Here’s how to determine if ringtone mis-assignment is causing your problem and how to fix it.

* If you’ve never had custom ringtones on you iPhone – either made with iTunes or any of the other ringtone-creation programs – this probably doesn’t apply to you.
* Check the contact of the person who called when the phone didn’t ring. In their Info card, there’s a Ringtone line. It may read “Default” or the name of the ringtone you previously used.
* Tap the Ringtone line to see the list of ringtones on your iPhone. If the ringtone listed on that person’s Info card isn’t on your phone anymore, you’ll need to change it to something else on that list.
* If that was the case, you’ll also need to assign a new default ringtone to the phone.

If this has happened to you, you’ll need to find all the contacts that had the old ringtone assigned to them and select a new one if you want to hear a ringer when they call you. Annoying, but necessary if you want to hear those calls as they come in.

IPHONE does not ring !

I bought this iphone a couple of months ago. I am in London and put in a Three sim card and then a Lycos sym card. The phone's most important function does not work. When people call me I can not hear the phone ring. It vibrates, but does not ring. This is also true for sms's... I have tried everything on this forum. Reset network settings... reset all settings... take it automatic mode to manual and nothing works.

They charge so much for a truly beautiful phone, the applications are great... but the most important functionality of a phone does not exist on the iphone. It's not user friendly and every time anything goes wrong I feel like I am on a discovery mission.

Shame on you Apple for not fixing the glitch. It appears that it is world wide and it has been happening for a long time. I have the latest generation iphone 3G 32GB and still it appears the same problems are encountered.

Phone vibrates but does not ring.

Ok I just figured it out... it is a bit silly on my part that I over looked this. There is a switch on the top left side of the iphone. This switch is used to put your phone on automatic silent. If you see a red line, its on silent. Just switch it and the phone should work fine. Hope this works for you... Sorry Apple for previous post. But, I was getting pretty frustrated as I had tried everything else and nothing worked.

Solution

to all of you who have the real problem that the iphone does not wake up when a call comes in so that you miss it.

has nothing to do with silent switch or smth like that.

in some german board i read about one guy that deleted the three files in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle/ and everything worked fine for him so i tried it (after i tried anything else) and i was successful too.

basically it's deleting the wrong working power management (causing the iphone does not wake up) so it does not go into sleep mode. by doing this your battery is getting empty faster.

so if you wanna give it a try, do this:

  1. back up your iphone data
  2. go to /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle/ either by ssh or a tool like "iphone explorer"
  3. back up the three files located in this folder on your harddisk
  4. delete them from the iphone
  5. done

btw. these are the files to delete if you're not sure:
  • com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
  • Info.plist
  • PowerManagement
i also tried to just edit the plists but had no success neither by keeping one of the files.

i hope this works for you as well and maybe there is some ambitious hacker reading this who can give a better solution instead of just deleting these files.

iPhone doesnt ring when people call

I called AT&T with this propblem: I was told at top left of iPhone screen should say At&t #3G -- if it doesn't you have to reset my network settings as the phone is not on the network but may be using Wi-Fi: settings - to reset newtwork settings: settings - general - reset - reset network settins. phone will shut done & turn back on -- this corrected the initial problem of my iPhone not ringing at all. But the only rintones that seem to be working are the standard ones. My iPhone does not ring when set to a custom ringtone nor a ringtone purchased from iTunes. Does anyone have a solution?

This solved the 'iPhone not ringing' issue for me!

This was it! Now my iPhone 3GS is working as expected.
Much thanks!!
