I contacted State of Alabama where I live & they said they have no have plans to have a digital license in the future. Interestingly Alabama used to have a digital driver’s license but stopped issuing it.

Anyone know how to get the middle name to not show on the digital ID? Mine shows Firstname Middlename L. Looks like it’s an Apple thing, as it applies to both the state and federal digital ID. If they don’t want to display someone’s full last name for privacy reasons, why do they need to have my full middle name? None of the example photos show middle names. Is a middle name really that rare these days that they just haven’t thought of this?
Good question. I’d also prefer it not show my middle name.

As with all things, Pennsylvania will undoubtedly be among the last, dragged kicking and screaming into something resembling the future.

Well it takes everything longer in PA as it's being dragged over potholes, or on death trap SilverLiner IV trains.

I'm a PA native and life long resident. I had reason recently to deal with PennDOT about my license. The day I got the letter in the mail I emailed my state rep. Otherwise, your business sits in a bin in Harrisburg and no one gets to it. It was successful as my issue was resolved in a day. I'm nobody special politically or whatever. I just know that PennDOT is a fickle beast and must be approached as such. As far as the train cars. They inspected all of them, but only 75 could go back into service due to needing some sort of fix. I'm watching the news and I'm like "doesn't anyone else want to know WHY we were allowed to board those death traps just a few weeks ago, and now they have to sit". IDK. This is life in Pennsylvania. It's still home, and I love it, but sheesh. I'm a rail fan as well. I've probably ridden the majority of those SL IV's that are sitting in yards waiting on TCL. I've ridden most of the system end to end just as a "rail tourist". No where to be, just riding the train for fun.

So this IS life in PA. It's either nothing or a hot mess. Enjoy the nothing. I suppose it's better than the hot mess PennDOT could make of the roll out.

As far as MD. Why does everything have to have a crab on it? And I swear, that state flag is like a cult, It's on everything MD. MD isn't a state. It's a cult. A nice cult to visit, but I digress.

This is the most populous state yet, huh? Since California, Texas, Florida, and New York have yet to launch...
Well, IL being sixth in population is pretty up there. I agree the article title is clickbaity.

AI slop says it's the 25th biggest state in the nation. IL that is, not AI which isn't a state.
I think the slop is referring to 25th in land area.

Props to IL for not just rolling out the Digital ID’s but also creating the app to allow businesses to use it for verification. It’s stuff like that and the GA requirement that police departments have the capability to accept Digital ID’s within the next few years (IIRC) that will drive this forward. In OH, we have the digital licenses but aside from flying, I’ve never had any reason to use this. Glad to see states creating value from it.

Virginia has their own app for their mobile id. I tried it and got an error message when trying to load my license. I messaged support and got a shrug emoji back (basically).

You’re getting downvoted, but you’re right. Especially in today’s America. People are being feckless on this
He was spreading terrible misinformation that will end up causing anyone who follows it LOTS of trouble. I see so many videos of people who made things way worse thinking they do not have to follow simple (and lawful) instructions during a traffic stop. Most of these people do not have a lawyer on retainer and the legal costs to get them out of said jam for thinking they are above the law are going to be FAR higher than any infraction they might have been cited for.
You shouldn't be handing ANY phone to a cop. You should be filming them with it so can't do that if they have it. BTW, only say to said cop "I plead the 5th. I want my lawyer. I do not consent to any searches or seizures."
You don’t actually hand your phone over. The entity on the other side of this transaction has a reader device, so a simple tap should be all that is necessary. It will take some time for this to fully roll out, hence why people are still required to carry their physical IDs for law enforcement.

The whole thing is a typical, wasteful, govemental mess. Something like this should just be a Federal law, digital ID's as an OPTION. It should have nothing to do with Apple, just a set of secure requirments, that Apple, Google, Samsung, Garmin etc needs to meet to be valid. Instead you have this crazy list, and in some places that state has its own "wallet" app for ID's.

Minor civics quibble: It's generally accepted that the Federal government has limited jurisdiction over drivers licenses based on the 10th Amendment.

With Real ID, for example, Congress could not simply pass a law stipulating ID requirements for each state to comply with. Instead they made it so that state ID's that did not comply with said requirements would be ineligible for use for certain Federal purposes, notably air travel. States were therefore coerced into complying (after almost two decades of delays) by not wanting to have their residents unable to use their IDs for air travel.

Congress could similarly pass requirements for digital IDs stipulating what TSA would accept, but they do not have the authority to compel states to offer a digital ID.
