Depending on the interaction, you shouldn’t plead the 5th right away, as it puts them on the defensive, but I agree in spirit!

Why even announce adoption without a timeframe, when it’s no different than a safe assumption all states will *eventually* adopt?
 
Based on my experience this has been an overhyped, bureaucratic waste.
It rarely works, it fails/expires, and there are few places to use it.

I'm super excited for this, for no other reason than I love tech.

Thankfully, having a younger SoS made this a reality. God Bless Jesse White, but I don't think we'd have this if he were still our SoS.
 
I'm an Illinois resident and not seeing the state of Illinois under "Driver's license and ID Cards" selection?
 
Afaik they typically roll the availability out in phases over a day so as not to completely overwhelm the state’s backend systems.

Knowing Illinois, there are multiple legacy systems involved.

People on reddit are saying they don't have it either, or they will be notified when it is available due to the high volume of traffic.

You don’t actually hand your phone over. The entity on the other side of this transaction has a reader device, so a simple tap should be all that is necessary. It will take some time for this to fully roll out, hence why people are still required to carry their physical IDs for law enforcement.

This 100% THIS.

Most of the "attorneys" on this board think they know everything. Its great watching the videos of the people who were going to get a simple speeding ticket get arrested because "they know their rights"!

And, as you said, you are never handing your phone over to a cop. He will scan it like when you use Applepay to pay for something.

That very well could be a feature, not a bug. We should all be kicking and screaming about the future. You’re just ahead of the curve.
