You’d think an uber progressive state like Minnesota would first to things like this but we’ll probably be last. We were one of the last to sign on to Real ID. Stupid.

By the time this becomes widely accepted, TSA probably wont even need any ID. I just came back to the states using Global Entry. That was crazy. I didn't have to get any ID out at all. I walked up to a kiosk that captured my face on a video screen as I walked up. Processed for a like a second and then told me to proceed. I walked over to an agent and he already knew my name, asked me if I had anything to declare, then told me to have a nice day. Wild. Not even 20 seconds for the whole process and never had to take my bag off my shoulder.
Is Global Entry different than global/international TSA Pre?

Yay! The California DMV app sucks so badly. I don't know why they didn't just take this route in the first place.
Very cool money grab by whomever did develop the CA app though, just good enough to get paid for it, but crappy enough that Apple will get it anyway. I bet there is a good "Follow the money" article here.

Now that Illinois is set to go digital. I hope it isn't though the do-it-yourself route with an app and instead just get onboard with Apple from day 1

I’ll bet it will be a standalone app.

Being able to leave the house with nothing but an Apple Watch and a car fob is a dream come true.

Next allow starting a car with a watch instead of a fob or phone…
That already exists.

2025 IONIQ 5’s as well

California requires people to continue to carry a physical license or ID card because the digital license is not accepted by law enforcement, state government agencies, and most businesses.
Meaningless until this changes.

I won’t even need the car fob. Electronic key on phone if I want to be safe I take it in case phone dies.

Will be functionally useless because all bouncers/event security only accept physical ID's
Because you said so? Unless they have to for drinks if a law mandated it, a business can absolutely merely accept a digital ID.

Lines would be a LOT faster skipping physical ID checks as well.

The hope is that a digital passport manifests itself to do away with passport pages and wasteful use of paper and other material that forces.

Yup. This is why digital identification is so important towards all lines and processing involving IDs be significantly faster.

Time is something you can’t get back.

Hopefully digital identification streamlines the right people have access to digital platforms and goods as well

Wish they would add the ability to add a UK driving license. Carrying one in the UK is not mandatory by law so it's not exactly replacing my main one, it would just be there for reference.

Don’t even need a watch for the Genesis GV60. Face recognition to unlock the doors and fingerprint to drive!

So excited! People say the issue is the states having control to opt in and that there's no mutual agreement between states.

The truth is it's better to let the states decide. If DOT becomes more federally regulated, democracy could be at risk.
Yeah, sure dude. There are a few more obvious scenarios that come to mind that could threaten democracy. DOT is definitely not one of them. 🙄

On the BMW, I can’t see using a watch since you must place the phone up into the center console to start the car. Also at random intervals Apple requires you to reauthorize the access of the car to the NFC. Its not worth the pain to use over the keyfob.

For those who have this ability already, do stores and restaurants have to accept the digital driver's license for purchases like alcohol, to confirm you are over 21?

There is no “global/international TSA Pre[check].” Precheck can be used domestically in the US. Global Entry is expedited entry for passport control into the US.
Readers are not everywhere. Jeez.
Yes, and where there aren’t readers, you can’t use it. You would use your actual license—akin to trying to use Apple Pay somewhere that doesn’t accept contactless payments. Where’s the confusion?
