In select U.S. states, residents can add their driver's license or state ID to the Wallet app on the iPhone and Apple Watch, providing a convenient and contactless way to display proof of identity or age at select airports and businesses, and in select apps.

In addition to driver's licenses and state IDs, iOS 26 is introducing a new Digital ID, which can be created based on a U.S. passport. Apple says iPhone users can present this Digital ID in person at select TSA checkpoints for identity verification purposes during domestic travel within the U.S., but it is not a replacement for a physical passport, and it cannot be used for international travel and border crossing in lieu of a U.S. passport.

Weird that BWI and DCA are participating, but not IAD. Not that I'd get to use it anyway since Virginia will be jockeying for last place like there is some hidden prize.

Maryland Mobile ID is voluntary and serves as a companion to your physical, plastic Driver's License/ Identification Card - it is not yet a replacement of the physical card, and you must continue to carry your physical Driver's License/Identification Card with you.

This is determined by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Please visit TSA.gov for the most up to date support for IDs in Apple Wallet.

Various entities, including law enforcement, are not yet accepting Maryland Mobile ID.

I'm in Florida and I've lost hope. We were supposed to get a replacement by now, but nothing has been announced.
At least there is the passport option now? Also, I believe TPA now supports digital ID's because there were terminals for it and it was being advertised in the TSA line.
Same here. Every time they announce a new state I get excited thinking it’s finally Florida. Why haven’t we out of all places gotten it yet? Lol

I have it in California and I still have to show my ID, the wallet app version doesn't look like a valid form of ID in my opinion.

A I’ve said before,Utah already has it, but it’s through their own weird damn app and you have to pay for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong: none of those 10 states actually state that the digital ID can be used in lieu of the actual ID card. Nor does the federal gov.
Until that changes, carry your ID when leaving your home.
Yeah, in California anyway, you still have to carry your physical driver license, so the digital one is nearly useless.
But maybe this is the thin end of the wedge

A lot of states have their own app for it (Colorado’s is actually pretty good and accepted everywhere in the state).

This is about Apple’s baked in implementation, which I find completely useless at the moment, and I live in a state that was one of the first to have both. It’s still faster to hand the TSA agent your physical ID and look at their, arguably illegal, face scanning cameras at TSA than it is to use the Apple Wallet ID.

Also, remember to breathe at regular intervals. We are currently at step one, getting digital IDs widely implemented. Very few places are going to invest large quantities of ID readers unless a lot of people have the IDs. So, we get the IDs out there first. You will still want to carry your physical ID for years to come - once it starts getting to were traffic cops and such will accept them, that'll be announced far and wide and you won't be able to miss it.
