Is there a timeline when Apple said digital IDs using passports would be available in the wallet app?

These digital IDs are completely useless. They aren’t accepted anywhere, all the airports that say they are accepted I’ve never once had it work, and even picking up an online order at the Apple Store they wouldn’t accept my digital ID and made me show my physical ID.
If these were adopted like Apple Pay was it would be cool, but it’s entirely useless. Nice try though.

I'd never try to fly at any of those airports without my physical ID. At this point in time it would end poorly.

My passport is always with me when getting anywhere near an airport.

Same. I always carry my Passport when flying, even domestically.

I'm in Florida and I've lost hope. We were supposed to get a replacement by now, but nothing has been announced.
At least there is the passport option now? Also, I believe TPA now supports digital ID's because there were terminals for it and it was being advertised in the TSA line.
Well, FL does have its own app(not that it's any good)... I did test out Touchless TSA Pre√ this morning — it's pretty nice.

Oregon license... will never happen. PDX I'm surprised wouldn't jump on this.
Right?!? And the bizarre part is that if you move, they no longer do a sticker but just updated the backend DMV database. So what is the use of a driver’s license? If you know your number, can’t you just give that out?

Texas will be the last, if it ever even gets onboard. The state is an alienated ( read : backward ) planet in itself with a matching ego and an inversely proportional IQ

A lot of states have their own app for it (Colorado’s is actually pretty good and accepted everywhere in the state).

This is about Apple’s baked in implementation, which I find completely useless at the moment, and I live in a state that was one of the first to have both. It’s still faster to hand the TSA agent your physical ID and look at their, arguably illegal, face scanning cameras at TSA than it is to use the Apple Wallet ID.

Three words to avoid the BS face scanners….I opt out.

If this weren’t Apple this project would have never even launched for many reasons, not the least of which is how long it’s taking.

Don't give your cellphone to the cops as you should be using it to record them. Never talk to cops and always plead the 5th and demand a lawyer. Do not consent to any searches or seizures.

Georgia recently passed a law (HB296) where you may present your digital license during a traffic stop (provided the officer has the equipment to scan it -- all officers must have it by July 2027).

The bill also includes a provision for a concern that's frequently brought up here -- using your device to present your digital ID/license is not considered consent to search the device and you are not compelled to release your device.

Meanwhile in Australia, all states have agreed to a new ISO standard. Right now, the digital licence pretty much carries the same weight as physical cards. e.g. airport, nightclubs, hotels, casinos....etc. There are even provisions for broken screens, flat batteries and how police handle your ID.

By law, you don't hand your phone over - they can only view and scan the QR code for verification, flat batteries are treated like a lost wallet (you don't have ID on your person), and a damaged screen is treated like a damaged physical licence (if it can be verified - good, if it can't - bad).

The US Department of Homeland Security was also involved in the creation of the new standard. A NSW licence was tested on a DHS CAT2 Gate with great success. Which probably means we'll be the first foreign country to use TSA's CAT2 units.

Illinois announced they were working with Apple on this, and it is supposed to be launched by the end of the year. I haven't heard anything more about it since March, so I'm not holding my breath.

Can they make it like guided access so that it requires owner authentication to exit the ID screen

So Colorado has options. I have my Colorado ID in the wallet app, and have my drivers license in the myColorado app.

More businesses and government offices here are starting to recognize them. Denver airport can use the Colorado ID at TSA but I have a feeling when I fly out of Colorado Springs airport in a few weeks they probably won't have the needed readers.
