No. That is a common misconception. With that said, digital ID in this form is pretty useless. Airport and law enforcement are the only places where it is accepted, and even that may vary. You definitely should just carry your physical ID until it is universally accepted.

Ah, thanks. So they need a special reader and you use it just like Apple Pay or something.

Yes, and if you left it at home then your spouse or family member could probably just mail you your driver’s license to your hotel (or a local FedEx Office or UPS facility) near your destination (using their hold for pick up feature) so you could just pick it up before your return flight

Making your initial flight utilizing the most efficient way possible is obviously priority number one - in that moment
Different people have different approaches to risk, I guess. I'd probably just take the next flight rather than travel without my ID.

I guess for people traveling alone for long enough that someone else can go through the trouble of getting their ID, then packaging and mailing it to the hotel with enough time to spare at a cost in time and money that is lower than the rebooking fee, but who are not intending to drive at their destination and are comfortable without identification while away, this is a great feature.

Yes, also people who fly at 6am are typically flying for business purposes (certainly not always) and therefore are also traveling alone and also more prone to leaving it somewhere at home - considering the rush to wake up, leave, catch an Uber etc etc (than probably someone taking an afternoon or evening flight) I’m sure the statistics would probably corroborate that if there were data available (regarding the most common timeframe) that TSA has passengers requesting their $45 ID verification alternative method

And yes, everyone has varying tolerance for risk (and risk aversion) different strokes for different folks. Choosing to take the next flight certainly comes with risk as well (assuming you mean standby) as most flights today either fly full (or are over sold) as overselling is actually a very profitable venture for airlines:

So the dynamics / risk calculus of that strategy (taking the next flight) have also changed significantly in the past 10 years. During peak season, they often might not even have an available standby seat for days! Something to be aware of when making your decisions on that

Not exactly a "special reader", in most cases, just an iPhone or Android device with SmartCop, an app that allows for verification using these devices built-in NFC readers.

Montana just began allowing state troopers to use the App for routine traffic stops.

SmartCop is pretty cool. Works with any modern iOS device, making it really easy for departments to adopt.

Did you hear that over the drone the new tar and chip roads make, or via the echo from a pothole? LOL.

Life long PA resident here. Please tell me where you heard this was in the works. I love PA, but we frequently seem to be behind on stuff like this. This state has always had a certain degree of malfunction. Part of it's quirky charm I suppose.

Now, at least make the inspections bi annual for cars under a certain age, or eliminate the emissions test that pretty much no one fails anymore to make up for the bump in the gas tax.

And if your response doesn't somehow include a keystone, it never happened. 😉

I can't give sources, I'd be fired. You don't have to believe me but it's been in the works long before the funding bills passed.
