The oldies are not even remotely as pretty- go deep enough and 16 colors & mono sound becomes the norm- and resolutions are relatively pitiful in these 4K & 8K times- but there is a LOT of FUNNNNNNNNNNN in many of them.
They are fun partially because those are early days of computing and computer games, partially because with primitive graphics, game must be fun so people continue to play it for as long as they could. Take Tetris for example, simple graphics, simple rules, yet we have a tournament. And there are lots and lots of games released during that time period grandfathering tons of gameplay mechanics we are all used to today.

The graphics are supposed to be seen on CRT. That’s when the shading blends properly and the response time is close to zero. The graphics designers made all their graphics on CRT with CRT in mind only. When we see them on new screens the shading becomes flatter and the pixels look blockier.

While cool, I'd miss physical controls. That way, I can tell which button I'm pressing by touch and not have to see where they are. I don't want to have to check where the buttons are every time my grip changes.
Some emulators support physical controllers like PS4/5

We must also be humble and honest here. Many people who download roms don’t play them much. They just like the buzz of downloading it and seeing it. They are tinkerers. After a few moments of play they say ok enough of that and then they play the new games.
This is so true

It may not be worth it if you don't do any other games on an iPhone, but the backbone controller should be compatible with most of these emulators.

Still, those computers can’t run Resident Evil 4 we have today. Some of those games were programmed using block Characters with no detail whatsoever. To make those games fun, the gameplay must have been good and innovative, unlike Today where cinematic view can stun us and gameplay becomes more mature.

PlayStation wireless controllers works on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. They are natively supported, so no need to install anything. Just activate pairing mode, then connect via Bluetooth.

Ah this is awesome news...welcome to 2012!

Well in 2012 only a few games ran flawless on mobile devices. Now, 12 years later all old and recent games run well, and most if not all game consoles can be fully emulated. Also Macs can now emulate great.

Get Serial Experiments Lain. It’s the rarest PS1 game ever made the weirdest game of all time. You might feel very dizzy. The physical copy sells for mega bucks because it is so rare.

I used Delta and man they made it super easy to load roms into it. However since retroarch was avail for apple tv I thought I should give it a go (used to use it with my pi back in the day), however I can't find a way to upload the roms and have the import work, I can do the manual load and it shows everything but that's one at time and I would rather have it scan a folder, anyone found a way to do that?

Click the 3 lines, then scan directory

True, but I was thinking more of the Gameboy style controls, unless those work with Gameboy games?

There are many types of physical retro gaming controllers that works with iPhone, probably GameBoy controllers too. Yes, depending on the emulator you use, the PlayStation controllers should work with any game, just set them up right in the emulator preferences to make them as close to GameBoy Controllers (directional pad, A, B, etc.) as possible.

So, I've been using and loving Delta. However, I'd really like an iPad solution that does the following:

NES, SNES, N64 (this doesn't seem to be a problem)
Multiplayer (2 player on the same screen at the same time)
External controllers (I currently use a ps4 controller, but would prefer something like the "8bit-Do SN30" to bring along when traveling)

I'm sure some of these do that! I think Retroarch maybe? I'm trying to find a solution where my daughter and I can game together on some long flights we have coming up. Any recommendations from this emulator list? I feel like Delta would have it covered if only it were available fullscreen on the iPad....

other than using delta, I've been loving my little Miyoo Mini +.. it's like we're in the golden age of retrogaming!

It's a shame the RetroArch devs have no intention of supporting network shares, rather than having to manage uploading ROMs to my Apple TV (where storage space is not huge).
The Files app supports SMB network shares. RetroArch uses the Files interface to find content to launch. You can add your SMB share to the Files app and then navigate to it in RetroArch.

Delta supports multiplayer (need at least one external controller). But using the iPhone app on iPad leaves a lot to be desired for the interface. I can confirm that you can connect four controllers at once, though.

Yep, I was super pumped about the multiplayer when I downloaded it, just tough to do multiplayer on such a small screen! Am really hoping that someone else has picked up the ball and run with it for iPad.. or that delta gives us a great full screen iPad experience to work with!

Glad that you can confirm that four controllers work! Thanks!
