iPhone 2g, had it for almost 2 years, than switched to Verizon and got a Samsung Glyde (****in hate it!), and after owning a Samsung Glyde for almost 2 years, I ordered my Verizon iPhone 4 on Saturday morning (like 2am), should be here no later than tuesday.

So,

iPhone 2G, Samsung Glyde, Verizon iPhone 4.

Launch day iPhone 2G >Launch day iPhone 3G > Launch day 3GS > Launch day iP4. Now? Back to the 2G (for a spell as my 4 is being fixed).

Launch day iPhone 2G

Launch iPhone 3G

Launch iPhone 3Gs

Back to 3G because my 3Gs was stolen from my girlfriend while she was on it

Launch iPhone 4

iPhone - iPhone 3G - iPhone 3Gs - iPhone 5

My real regrets are iPhone 3G, should have waited for 3Gs which I still love and use today. Selling my 3Gs to wait in a ten hour line for iPhone 4 only to return it after countless dropped calls.

I think the poll misses a very important/common variation:
2G->3G->4
The reason that this progression is common is because of typical upgrade eligibility. The 2G had no obligation, so the 3G was an an option for any existing iphone owner. Many users were not eligible to upgrade to the 3GS until late in it's cycle, therefore waited for the 4.
Between my wife and I, we are alternating between versions. I had a 3G and upgraded to a 4. She has a 3GS and will be getting a 5.

iPhone 2G (bought in 09 and unlocked it on a regional carrier)
iPhone 3G (bought in 10, same story)
iPhone 4 on Verizon (came on like the 9th)
