It should be announced in September, might ship in October in limited regions. Wider availability might happen only by November. Might launch similar to the iPhone X. Waiting to see the new device.

Am I the only one not interested in a foldable iPhone at all...? 🤔
The majority of iPhone users won't upgrade to one. But the iPhone market is so big, I reckon about 10 million people will.

I used to have a iPhone 12 mini, but Apple abandoned that category. I doubt the same will happen to the folding phone.

BTW, it says on another Macrumors article that Samsung initial shipment of folding displays to Apple is 3 million. So I think the 10 million figure is not out of line for a first year launch. Then it will snowball into a bigger category as IDC says.

I wasn't the least bit tempted by Android foldables.

In this I am interested. I guess I really do love the Apple ecosystem lol.

This could replace my daily phone and my iPad Mini.

hmmmm .....

Fact is that 20 million people did buy extremely expensive folding phones. So the market is there. Well, let's see.

The Vision Pro is different and rather special, a completely new category and from $3,499. By contrast, people know what they're getting in an iPhone, and already are willing to pay $1,000+ for that.
Is that 20 million foldables sold last year? If so that is way more than I expected and certainly sounds good for Apple if they can take a good share of that.

I see lots of foldable when I'm over in Asia, but very few in the USA. The figure is world-wide.
"December 9, 2025 – Worldwide foldable smartphone shipments are forecast to grow 10% year-on-year (YoY) in 2025 to 20.6 million units, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC)."

Never cared for foldables, not even the Samsung or Chinese brand ones.

Will be fun to see who are the special ones owning and using one later this year. 😄

It is my opinion that Apple should provide one year of free AppleCare to those who buy this.

I believe it is yes. I do see quite a lot of people using Samsung flip or fold phones here in Europe (The Netherlands). So if Apple manages to make a good one, it will most likely sell well enough. Even though I have no interest in them myself and will keep using my 17 Pro for now.

iPhone Ultra will be a quantum leap for the industry, being the first foldable without “Fold” in its name, turning the page on boring old foldables. Space-time and marketing will fold in on itself, collapsing timelines and creating a new reality for everyone in the galaxy, including Luke Skywalker when he comes here on the rare occasion he has the weekend off.
Finally, "this changes everything" lives up to the hype

I had zero interest, then a colleague let me try his for just one day. Suddenly I became aware of its immense potential and usefulness in my workflow.

Bought a Z Fold7 several months ago and now it's the mainstay of my mobile work.

While I'm very interested in one from Apple, I'll let them experiment with version 1.0 and wait for the improved second generation to be released.

Will it be another iPhone Air? Apple have not been good at estimating market size recently. It looks to me too expensive and not useful — I don’t work or multitask on my iPhone.

Kuo indicated Apple placed orders for 15 to 20 million total foldable iPhones. Apple seems confident.

I really hope apple doesn't actually release this.

Folding a screen is unwise to me.
