The folded specs on this do not look all that far off from my iPhone 13 Mini, although the weight is probably heavier because of the larger battery, and the cost is of course much larger. If that's really the case, then those of us pining for a new Mini may find ourselves with an option, and it will finally be the top of the line iPhone instead of a compromised one, presuming we can afford it. I'll definitely take a look at it when it's out to make that comparison, my Mini is doing fine but eventually it's going to have some issue, so if this will actually be a replacement when closed I won't have to fret anymore about what I'll do when mine dies. And, the open screen will be a nice bonus for when I want to look at something that can use it.

I still can't imagine buying this. Hinges or no, flexing electronics is a bad idea and I cannot believe this will solve the crease problem. Again, if Apple came up with a device that had to fixed screens joined by a precision hinge (so the gap between screens is no bigger than the gap between pixels), I would be interested. However, if this new foldable is as described, I would consider buying a slab iPhone and an iPad if I wanted a bigger screen. At least then there is redundancy in the event one device breaks.

“crease-free” yeah sure…
If it has a metal spine like a book then the two bends will be 90 degrees vice one bend that is 360 degrees. This causes less flex and near invisible crease-free.

Just have to think outside the box instead of reflecting what others have done so far, don’t limit ingenuity.

It’s not just needing two sets of sensors, it’s that the one for the outer screen would have to be very thin to fit between the two screens. Possibly just not feasible at the targeted device thickness.
That's called "engineering challenge and compromise"

I have an iPad Pro and an iPad Air at home. While using Face ID is simple and convenient, on the iPad Air—where Touch ID is built into the button—it usually ends up with me entering the passcode. The button is simply so narrow that in about 6 out of 10 cases I can’t unlock the screen with my finger. The technology itself is fine—I’ve been using iPhones since the very beginning and never had an issue with the 5S, 6S, or 7. But on those models the surface area was larger, which made accurate readings much easier.

Unless they improve the reading accuracy, I personally wouldn’t buy the Fold. But anyway, the main obstacle for me is the price. $2000 is a big “no, no” for me, so I’ll just wait until the technology matures and maybe becomes more affordable.
With AI and the prices for CPU, RAM and SSD going north the $2K figure is palatable. 😉

If the spine is a A or V shape the glass surface inside has to only bend 45 degrees when folded which causes less strain on the joint. Curious to see if it’s a 45 degree, 90 degree or 360 degree bend.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, end something enough times it will crease.

Samsung isn’t crease free but yet they make the screens. Not buying it.

Can’t wait to see all the defective ones people receive. Then complain how unacceptable it is, since they paid a month worth of a mortgage payment on it.

I think it would make more sense for Apple to launch a Samsung "Flip-style" phone. This would meet the needs of those who want a "mini" and those who prefer foldable devices. I myself would be happy to use a "Flip-style" device if it ran iOS.
I want one too but have no good reason. Current phones aren't too big for my pocket and feel great in my hand. I just think the flip-style phones look cool. That's all I've got 🙂

I could twist my head into the steep earlier adopter price if it had a decent camera. But everything I’ve read says it will not have an optical telephoto camera on par with the 17 PM. That makes it impractical for my use. No sale. I value the camera above a larger, but more portable, screen.

I'm actually really excited to get rid of Face ID, I'm one of the people it never works well for. Constantly get the little vibration buzz that it didn't work correctly and wants me to constantly type my passcode. Touch ID just worked and none of this "oh the angle wasn't spot on perfect, type your code" BS.
Yeah same, I don't need my phone to act like it don't know me every morning and remind me my face is puffy when I wake up.

You would need two Face ID cameras, one inside, one outside. With Touch ID you only need one.

I’m thinking this will be a folding iPad mini, which runs everything and already has phone software. What cpu are people thinking about?
