It's not going to happen since 54% of web video is now HTML5 compatible http://www.loopinsight.com/2010/10/27/54-of-web-video-is-now-html5/ Apple just going to wait it out.

I am sad everyone is hating on Flash. Flash isn't just for video, but it also happens to be one of if not the most common video platform. We have to take a step back to understand why it's popular. For video, it's because it allows interactivity. One "interactive" element is ads. Yeah, they suck. But guess what? They are what fund the internet. Flash is easy to develop for. It's only going to get more popular. Online mapping will continue to grow and it uses Flash. And SilverLight. Both should be allowed on iPhone at least iPhone 5. Sure Adobe should polish up the code. But I think they've probably learned a lot by deploying it on Android for a year. I'm sure if they worked together with Apple (If Apple played nice) they could figure it out for iPhone 5. Which would be a great selling point for iPhone 5...Apple are you listening...

Flash is big for business. It's not going anywhere. HTML 5 is not a replacement. Flash is good. It's implementation on the Mac is..sub-optimal. But instead Apple is creating a holy war with a former friend and business partner, Adobe, and stabbing them in the back. Not a good long-term business plan.

Just because Flash is easy to develop for doesn't mean that it's a good solution. Easy programming doesn't mean that it's an effective use of resources, or that the end result best benefits the consumer. There are lots of things that are big for business, but no big for the end consumer.

In regards to the OP: My iPhone already runs Flash (in the occasional instance that I want/need it to): https://github.com/comex/frash

Everyone talks about Apple giving users a choice to use Flash. Consider the fact that most likely the main reason web owners are starting to switch to HTML5 for their videos is because of iOS. Why would Vimeo or Google switch to HTML5 for their videos if the iPhone supported Flash? There could be no incentive to do so. You would go to Vimeo and it would "You must use Adobe Flash to view our website please go to your settings and enable Flash. Here is some instructions on how to do so".

Another thread about this?? really and I doubt it will ever happen, I know for a fact that I don't want flash on my iOS device. Just sayin

I have Frash on my iPhone 4 so that I can play Flash.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I used it. The only thing I ever see it giving me the option to view are ads.

Even on the mobile pron sites, the videos play fine, and the ads are giving me the 'flash' option

What is Frash? And does it allow you to view flash based websites?

I find Flash invaluable when I run across a restaurant other website using it.

It's just one of those capabilities, like multitasking or voice+data, that is really handy to have at times.

Like many things in life, it's nicer to have them and rarely use them, than to need them and not have them. Not necessary, but nice.

Could not have said it better. Having the OPTION to use it and turn it off would be the happy middle ground that would satisfy the need to use it when it's necessary and not have it be the crashing, battery hog it is when it's not needed or wanted. But I don't see it happening.

Arrrghhh. People keep posting this ******** stat again and again and again.

The methodology used to work it out is complete nonsense.

It's simply wrong. I mean, for a start it assumes all of YouTube is HTML5, and YouTube's own corporate strategy is to serve 30% of it's videos from content partners by 2012 - and they're the videos that demand RTMPE for delivery. Which surprise surprise is Flash only.

It also counts sites that serve HTML5 to iOS as "available", even if they don't serve it to desktops. And that doesn't count as a transition, because you'll never hit a tipping point if people double encode.
