The new iPhone may output 720p (and possibly record it) but the screen itself will not change at all. Not only would it be a usability nightmare, it would mess up every single app.

Apple didn't initially include 3G due to battery life concerns. Therefore, you aren't going to see 720p output. It may not even be possible. Don't forget that we're talking about a 400Mhz CPU and about 64MB of RAM. 480p video already drops you down to about 4 hours of battery life. 720p would probably suck it down to 2, so what's the point? I understand why people would theoretically want it, but the HD videos will take up too much space and suck too much battery life to happen in the next few years.

Dude thats AWESOME im DEF buying one in June

The light up button for notifications is my fave

This PHONE WILL BE REVOLUTIONARY.

If Apple is going to a high resolution display on the next iPhone, wouldn't we have seen hints by now? All the new UI stuff (video capture sliders, etc.) found in 3.0 seem to have been designed with the current resolution in mind. Just a thought.

Of course they could just be playing it very close to the chest, so what do I know.

I like the metal casing. I predict the 3rd gen iphone will go back to this using the same aluminum techniques developed with the unibody macbooks.

Also the idea of a home screen notification light is great. Although I think with the 3.0 software just about every app is going to want to be notifying us of all kinds of things.

I can't see that happening. The plastic body was chosen because it improves signal reception.

Are you so sure? I thought the 3G actually would suck more battery up than 720p output - I think the thread needs actual power usage stats for both things. We have GPS on Maps, which is a killer for battery life - proving that Apple can put things on the phone that use a lot of battery life.
